10-22mm - Please recommend

The Sigma 10-20mm is the probably the best lens to buy for this focal length. I've got one and I love it. It's significantly cheaper than the Canon 10-22mm.

Canon users recommend the 10-22, but the sigma 10-20 is good too. From all the arguments about them I havent heard any reasonable explanation for one being better than the other.
Therefore, go by price between those two.

Isn't it pot luck whether you got a nice sharp one from Sigma?

I'd go for the Canon for reassurance and quality personally.

Is the an L version of this lens? Or a EF fitting? or can I not use a 10mm on a full frame camera (just incase I upgrade)

I'm tempted by this lens... In fact I think I may get it instead of the 10-17 fisheye I was thinking of. As fun as the fisheye might be I'm sure this will see more use.

A good comparison here http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/uwatest

The consensus seems to be the Canon one is better but it's debatable as to whether this justifies the extra price. The Sigma also comes with a hood and pouch which the Canon does not.

I've got the Canon version and one of the deciding factors for me is Sigma's dreadful QC. If you look at a poll over on POTN the results show that 30% of people had problems with their Sigma lens out of the box. That to me is unacceptable especially considering the amount of money being spent.

I don't know how anyone can look at that comparison on pbase and say the canon is slightly better.

Looking at how awfully the Sigma flares on that wide angle image it was a deciding factor for me. I actually used this same comparison before purchasing my EFs 10 - 22.

Remember your buying these lenses for the 10mm factor so don't buy it on the fact its better zoomed out.

Thanks Guys, as I say the price isn't as issue, I don't want to buy a lesser standard lens for the sake of a few pounds (well not really a few!).

I have the Sigma 10-20 and IMO got a bad copy, not that sharp compared to 10-22 shots and the AF isn't entirely convincing!

Get the 10-22 IMO, I should have done for £150 more .

:)

Sigma do seem to have a bad quality control system going on when it comes to this lens. Hense its price.

My EFs 10 - 22 is prob one of the sharpest lenses in my collection. Outstanding optics from it (maybe I have a REALLY REALLY good copy)
