Free BMW M3 Racing game

I've just ordered GTR 2 off the back of this! Really looking forward to getting to grips with it. I'm on the hunt for a new gfx card anyway but what would you guys recommend to get the best out of GTR 2? I'm currently running nvid 7300gs in sli.

BTW, my best time so far is 2 mins 23secs or so with the PS2 pad. Is this good or bad?

for a pad not too bad, my best with my G25 with all assists off and the shifter in H shift mode is 2:13.9

as for graphics card what is your budget?

Nice driving, i'm certainly not shifting! Automatic man for now:).

Don't really want to spend more than £100 tbh. Don't know if it makes any difference, i'm running c2d e6400 clocked to 2.4ghz (boring but safe), 2gig (cheap) ram but i'm most concerned about my psu which is 550v. Don't know the make, it was put together by Mesh.

for 100 your not gonna get much brand new thats any good, get your post count up and be a member for whaile and get in the Members Market im sure there will be something in there for 100 thats good, but i dont know as im banned from there:rolleyes:

The 1950Pros arn't a bad card for the money, have a look here.

My best time is 2 mins 23 secs on a 360 pad although i havent played it that much, could probs get it down a second or two :)

After a certain point, cpu speed is king in Gmotor engine-based games like GTR2 / rFactor / RACE.

When pared with a quick cpu ( C2D at 2.5ghz+ / AMD at around 3ghz ), an overclocked 7900GS is enough to run them in DX9 at 1600x1200 / 2QxAA / 8xAF with all the gfx options maxed out and still get 30+fps quite comfortably, so a 1950Pro will be fine.

Its ok with a keyboard but everything will be on/off. When was the last you drove your car full throttle / idle

The game will buffer your actions and you can try to do the same but just getting a cheap x360 controller or whatever will make it easier on yourself. Its not overly sensitive and you can just leave TC on, etc

I like this , very good for a freebie.

Best time I've got in Practice is 2:15.7 using a 360 pad. I seem to spend more time sideways then anything though :D.

Does anyone know any other games that use the same physics engine, or is this a one off?

this game has way too much resemblance to live for speed and rfactor. im sure they are all using the same game engine.

They may well do all do the physics in a similar way. Revolutionary or new especially on fundamentals, spells trouble, hassle and bugs which no programmer wants.
Far easier to spend time to ramp up the graphics, any problems there dont have great consequences

If you want real physics then you want Geoff Crammond, he got a physics degree before he ever learnt programming and it always shows in what he does. Your average games company will have opposite priorities

Anyone played this with a 360 pad? I cant seem to get the sensitivity right, either way too much or too little.

I tried driving down the pit the wrong way, managed to fall through the building and reached 350 km/h in reverse!

all i did with the settings was create a 1-2% deadzone, to compensate for the wobble i have gained on my sticks over the time ive owned it

LFS uses it's own engine, GTR/GTL/GTR2/RACE/rFactor all use the same or slightly different version of the Gmotor engine.

For me, any game using the Gmotor engine just feels all wrong, the forcefeedback doesn't give me any confidence in pushing the cars as it does in LFS.

The LFS developers are pretty good when it comes down to the physics, graphics take a back seat. It was stated by one of them that 'LFS is a racing sim, not a screenshot generator' :)

If you have rFactor, download the RealFeel FFB plugin. It bypasses rF's canned FFB effects and takes the value from the cars' steering rack instead (as it should like RBR and LFS )

There isn't too many mods that support it properly atm ( Caterham and Corvette are 2 created with RFeel in mind ), but it still makes a noticeable difference to the ones that don't, so its well worth trying if you don't drive the 2 mods listed above.

It can take a little bit of tweaking to get the values right for a mod, but the difference is normally worth it.
