Ramadan - We've been asked not to eat at our desks...

I'd tell them to drop dead, and that I won't be changing my daily habits for the sake of religion - in particular somebody elses.

No Muslims, no Ramadan, no pathetic bosses asking you not to eat at your desk, a little extreme but how do you know a muslim hasn't made this request of his boss?

no humans, no pollution, no murder, no using all the world's resources - where do you draw the line?

you can't say that just because there's a group of people in this country massively over-reacting to different cultures that that's a problem with the different culture! it's a problem with the muppets making decisions in this country!

although, I can't argue with the potentiality that a muslim co-worker made this request. have to say I believe it'd be highly unlikely though, considering Ramadan isn't seen as a chore by any muslims I know - only people who think that are people who don't get the point

Totality said:

there's a difference between ass-kissing and not rocking the boat for something so pointless as this. I'd rather be a person like you think BigBadBenny is, than one of the people who sits at their desk moaning about how crap everything is but not having the balls to do anything about it. people like that, everyone hates at work. they pretend to like them.

I wouldn't kick up a fuss because it sounds like your boss is a major tool and he would probably just ban eating at desks for everyone out of religious respect for keyboards and mousemats.

If I was a Muslim I would be offended that I was perceived as being so weak that the sight or smell of food could cripple me during my fast.

My Muslim mate at Uni used to come to the Canteen with us and just chat...

This is utter utter nonsence

Fuss has just been kicked. So all you fools making the (misinformed) assumption that all I wanted to do was moan, you are grossly mistaken and I suggest you jump off your high horses now.

As predicted, the bosses simply didn't want to know. Conversation ended before I could get any point across. It's pathetic

I think it's fair enough, it's their culture and something they live by. They are your work colleagues and you should appreciate their beliefs. It's only a month.

So, us "Christians/ catholics" etc have to respect their beliefs for forcing themselves not to eat YET we have to be careful at christmas incase we offend them. Sorry but its total crap.

Did you bother talking to any of your muslim colleagues first?

I don't even know who is/isn't muslim here. I don't exactly keep a list, as I treat all co-workers the same regardless of religion. I'd feel a bit knobbish if I went round asking, "hey are YOU muslim? hey.. are you muslim?" etc...

i was only kidding with that,

you still can eat meat, its your own choise and free country, do anything you like just dont trow Haribos at me, then contain gelatine made from cow bones :P

I'm working in a Islamic country, under Sharia law, working in an office full of muslims. They have absolutely no problem with me eating food at my desk etc. They wouldn't want to force their religious beliefs to affect someone else.

Just as long as i don't do the 'i have food' dance and rub it in their faces of course :-)

Why would you eat at your desk anyway, I think companies should discourage it tbh.

Yeah supposed to take a break from work. always had lunch not in dinner break. And if you stay in the office don't do any work at all. You don't get paid for it, so why give them a free half hour/hour?
