im moving into a student house on the weekend.

the previous occupants had 20mb VM and i was just wondering if they left the modem in the house could i use that and just get virgin to remote activate the line or do i need a new modem sent? if so can it be sent in the post or does an engineer have to be sent round.

ha! my bird has just moved into her new place. Virgin ****** something up so offered to give them 20meg for the price of five. Funny thing was, they were all raving about how great it was etc but when i did a speed test. It was 3meg...........

thats great but you completly missed the question :)
If the line and everything is already in then they should be able to do it all remotley if the modem is still there then they should be able to use that one if not they will send another one out

Yeah that's fine. When I do a speed test mine reports 4mbit, yet I can download from my usual sources at 2400KB/sec.

In short, speed tests are crap. Don't rely on them.
