Hi,

I got in from work this morning at 8am, and went straight to bed. My housemate woke me up at around half 9 saying that they'd just heard a loud bang, and when he looked outside he could see 3 kids looking around the front passenger wing of my car, he naturally woke me up.

I went outside and there is a rather large dent in the front passenger wing, along with scratches/mud as though a football had hit it. The kids were still about so I simply asked 'who kicked the football at the car' - one of them replied, that it was him, and that it was a mistake. Fair play, so I asked to speak to his parents.

His mother came out, and I explained the situation, she asked the boy as well and he admitted it to her, in front of us both. She agreed to pay for the damage. Sound, or so I thought.

I got back into bed, and 15 minutes later i'm woken up by the door, go downstairs and it's the boys father, who has decided that the damage wasn't caused by a football, and that he's not paying a penny. Naturally now i'm fuming.

I've rung the police, who say they'll send a squad car around, but i'm not holding high hopes to not be out of pocket. :(

What's the situation here, what's likely to happen? Not happy.

Yes. very hard. It's not surprising considering it's not the first time my car has been damaged parked around here.

Explain to him that both his son and his wife have admitted that it was the football, and that there would be renumeration for the damage. Tell him that you are getting the police involved and then see what they have to say.

If nothing comes of it, lob a brick at his car, then swear blind that "it definately wasn't the brick that caused the damage so you aren't paying a penny".

Lol brilliant!

But yeh - clearly two of them have admitted to being in the wrong and will do something about it. He should just keep out of it!

how very normal. this is typical of stupid agreements between people to pay for damage... the agreements are rarely fulfilled as very few people out there have got the backbone to backup what they say theyll do.

if you really wanna, claim through your insurance co and theyll chase the spackers who damaged your car... or even one of those no win no fee places.... you can make a county court claim based upon proforma invoices too etc

It's more question of finding out just how much money bodywork repairs can cost...

Still awaiting the police to come around, they rang me and said it's likely going to be tomorrow.

I'm assuming they won't be able to do a lot, but if I file a formal police report surely I can contact the small claims court, if the police side with me?
