PS2 component cable - worth the effort?

No. RGB is RGB scart or "full scart" whereas most scart cables are crappy composite scart (the same quality as using the crappy yellow video connection). Component are the Red/Green/Blue plugs that provide a far superior picture to RGB scart.

RGB scart = 576i iirc while component allow high definition progressive signals.
oh ok

but am i right in still thinking that the standard PS2 simply will not allow DVDs to playback through anything better than composite or RF?

I have an RGB scart cable and it shows up green on DVD

No, s-video and component work fine. It's only rgb that has the green screen issue. And unbeliveably, the ps3 has the same problem.

Wow, now to find out if my TV will accept Component

i assume that component does not work through scart?

As an update, my PS2 component cable arrived on Tuesday and has been in use since then. Certainly made a difference, particularly in the perceived 3D depth of an image (e.g. how far you can see on track in GT4), absolute detail visible is up, and red items are now legible, as against a blury mess. Definitely worth the £9 it cost.

Was that for the official cable?
