Peugeot 206

My 1.4 206 is like a friday afternoon car. Pretty much everything on it has given me problems. Not always cost me money but has given me issues. I've spent what I paid for it on repars in 2 years. About £5k, for things that just shouldn't go wrong on a 35k mile car.

Get something older and german or maybe even jap, just for the reliability.

I've driven my parents 206 2.0Gti....and I loved going back to my little 1.4 '98 Vauxhall Corsa...thats how bad they are.

Sive 11 feet and I find the 106, 206 and Saxo all uncomfortable to drive in shoes.

ive got size 10 feet and found that, unless I wore really 'thin' shoes, ala Puma Mostro's or some such, I would end up mashing the pedals... GTI180 206 was particularly bad for this.

what does everyone think of these cus im thinking abotu getting one but my mate says there for girls.
Not sure about 206 being girls' car but it has the *worst driving position* ever! 205 has none of this.

To be in comfortable driving position, you need to have both arms and legs in equal length! When my leg is in right position, I find my arms needing to reach for steering wheel! If I need to adjust for steering wheels, my legs is cramped!

...Hmm not sure I quite believe this. That corsa is a worse car in every single way. Nobody would want to go back to one!

It's an opinion, deal with it.

awful gearbox, imagine sticking a wooden spoon into a bowl full of jelly, that will perform better.

ive been driving a 1.6 8v 206 for 18 months now and a 56 plate golf 1.6FSI recently and i honestly prefer the 206

yes the golf is built better but did they remember to give the engine any power below 5000rpm? the 206 pulls well round town never going above 3000rpm when the golf felt slow and wheezy, the gears slip in nice and easily compared to the RAM CLUNK of the golf

in 6'3" and yes it does get a bit uncomfy for long journeys, but it rides very well indeed IMO, nice smooth ride and not too bad in the twisties

yeah it rattles, but come on guys, it is french

never been in a 1.1 or 1.4 but the 1.6 is fairly wizzy considering its only got 90bhp :) motorway curising at 75 not a problem at all, most of them about are the 1.1 or 1.4 but the 1.6 8v is a sweet engine, im sure others will agree (VTR owners where are you :p)

as for reliability - my dads 55 plate passat cant even go 20 miles without making all sorts of funny noises and the radio braking or the fuel pump seizing, bit ironic that the french tinbox gets more abuse day to day and has never skipped a beat, compared to the so-called german reliability

some of the opinions of people on here are comical :D "never been in one but i hate them" "learning in one and its crap" and so on

edit - i managed to get the PERFECT driving position once, took hours, but then my mum whos about 5cm tall moved it

Ive had two 206's on a days hire each when my Focus went into the dealer for some work doing. Horrible cars!

The gear change is wooden, I agree about the pedals - in fact i found my foot catching the steering column!!! I could feel it turn when i changed direction! The stereo was pants, the interior cheap, the engine woeful... the list goes on! My 306 was much better by comparison. I agree about the 90's styling, it looks rather dated now but i'd still have one over a 206 any day.

(PS - Those who posted their height as 6" - thats 6 inch. Feet are denoted by ' )

If you're spending a few grand on a 206 and really want a peugeot, get a 306 or a 406 instead. Much better cars and you'll get newer/faster for your money.

The 206 is one of the only Peugeot's which hasn't depreciated *that* badly, which is half the point of a used French car.

The 207 is a much better car.

Edit: plus they are made of monkey metal, the slightest knock will make a huge dent in them. The electronics are pap and the engine is leaking oil from the cam covers after 60 000 miles about 8 years old.
