quiet cpu for overclocked Q6600

Noctua NH-U12F - fits nicely in the P182, only 17dB but it comes with a volt-modded fan cable which lets you run slower and quieter.

Found a stock source but I notice that it states due to the size it will point towards your psu which must put extra strain on it so may consider the smaller version Noctua NH-U9F CPU Cooler not sure what the coolings like on this one though !

In the P182, the psu is in the lower chamber, so your Noctua blows towards the upper exhaust fan. I'm running this on the Abit IP35 Pro, Q6600 G0, 8800 GTS 640, in a P182 case, at 3.33GHz with idle temps 30-32, depending on ambients.

Its a great combination, dunno about the smaller U9F though. There's always the Tuniq Tower and Thermalright Ultra - but I don't know how well these fit, but its a popular board and they're popular coolers so I'd be surprised if they don't fit.

I was wondering about that this morning when I woke up (the psu position).
Nice one thanks mate :) Will go for the NH-U12F .
You seem to have the exact set up to what I'm building ,I take it your pleased with it . You using xp or vista ? What psu did you go for ? I'm planning to get the corsair 520W but wondering if more power might be useful for future proofing .

I'm very pleased with it mate, :). I'm using Vista 64 Ultimate, and an Antec 850 Quattro - but I had to remove the fan from the lower chamber to accommodate.
Your Corsair should allow you to leave that fan in place, if you're worried about future proofing, try the Corsair HX620w - its more than capable.

Removing the fan was simple enough, just unhinge it before you install anything. No screws involved.

I run two fans in the upper drive bay in push/pull config - means no drives there I'm afraid but worth it for the extra cooling (imo) - its directed right at my 8800 GTS in the upper chamber. You can run a front fan with drives in place in the upper drive bay, but not both.

[edit]
fwiw: I have four drives in the lower chamber w/o any probs.

how do you connect 2 fans in there? tie wraps?

The case comes with a couple of thin wire braces that latch onto the upper drive bay, and hold the rear fan in place (rear of the drive bay). The one that sits in front clips onto the case in front of the removable upper drive bay - so if you *have* to put drives in the upper bay you can still have one upper inlet fan.

The manual's a bit poor in this regard, but if you give it a confused stare for long enough it eventually makes sense :D.

i am going to remove the top drive bay because the 8800GTX doesnt fit with it in supposidly....... then will stick the fan towards the front of the case i think

how this sound

dunno bud. I've a GTS, but there is some clearance - depends on the GTX dimensions I suppose. Suck it and see, mate. If you have to though, shouldn't be a problem. Keep a close eye on your temps during testing - assuming you're going to o/c.

Sorry for the lack of pics, recent house-move and still missing my charger.

The fans are connected by position only, they can be removed by pressing-in and sliding toward the opening. Take your time, give it a good look, then push and press it out.

No snags, you can refit it, and otherwise, easily, once you see how they're mounted.

Ive taken a picture - ive tried pushing with screw driver the two black tabs on the left of this pic - but its very tough and scratched the metal.... I darent put any more pressure coz i think it will snap something.....

I'm working off two-week old memory here (not near my new machine atm), but I think your pic shows a locking tab in the upper left. At least, there is one aspect of the fan-case mating which is designed purely for locking the structure in place.
If you nudge that out of its housing, the fan slides smoothly out of place.
