finally got rid of my TV.

decided after apprx 12 years to ditch the TV (we only got our first one when i was 6, and that was a fixed up black and white).

sick of all the mindless drivel shown again and again.
sick of all the sensationalist media reporting, which depressed me half the time.
sick of all the adverts.
sick of the crappyness of my old TV.
and sick of all the brain washing.

and now it's gone \o/
just thought i'd get that off my chest (and my desk :D)

anyone else done similar?

Why get rid completely? Might as well have TV, you dont have to watch it excessively.

to be honest i'd pretty much stopped watching it earlier this year, ironically about the time i spent £30 on freeview

and it was just cluttering up my already cluttered room. (was a big old stylee one, not one of these nice neat HDTVs :p)

and now have no consoles to use it for, so whats the point in having it.

Brainwashing? Rofl...

I'll never get rid of my TV, not until they stop showing Mythbusters, Takeshi's Castle, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Futurama.

Yes, havnt bothered with TV in a long time since its really gone to the dogs. I only watch specific shows, when i want to watch them and non of the filler carp.

I especially detest televised news which is so sensationalist and dumbed down it makes my eyes and ears bleed.

Can't you just buy an LCD TV with no receiver? That way you can still watch DVDs and not pay the TV licence fee?

Also you get to play the fun game of calling the bluff of the "TV Licence Inspector Officers" :D

I love these guys. We had countless letters in our university house 'WARNING! You are now under OFFICIAL investigation. If you dont pay now we will prosecute'

Never responded, never had anybody round, nothing. Considering how threatening the letters are, a total joke i feel.

I use mine to watch avi's and dvd's so nope, it's an ageing 24" philips crt that i've hooked up over s-vid. Don't use it that much for terrestrial, apart from CSI and the occasional C4.

Welcome to the world of threatening letters every month from TVLicensing :D You wont miss TV a bit after a couple of weeks.

I read an article on the BBC website a while back saying TV Execs were getting in a real flap over people in the UK giving TV up, the no-TV households are growing and growing :)

still living with my mum/dad/sister/brother, and they still have 3 TVs, so would still have to pay for the license anywho. and as said above, my PC will play my DVDs pretty darn good :p

Sky is full of repeats, the BBC is full of poo and C4 is a reality TV nightmare.

If I *really* wanted to watch "Lost" I would <obfuscate>deluge</obfuscate> it from t'interweb.

Quite happy listening to LBC or watching (legal) DVDs to be quite truthful.

yeah, if i wanted to watch a TV series i'd buy the DVD's or pay a trip to the interweb (tvlinks)

I couldn't sit and watch a movie on my PC at all. I much prefer the comfort of my large armchair and the widescreen TV downstairs!

I used to have a TV in my room, which was then replaced by a second CRT monitor. Since getting rid of it my music library has increase at a fast rate and has enriched my life a lot more.

When I had TV, most played album was The Killers - Hot fuss. Now it will be something like Radiohead/Sigur Ros. Or in minutes played I am confident Godspeed You! would be.
