E2140s seem really slow

Just spent an enthralling day rolling out (and borging, of course) 13 new PCs at the school. Mercifully, the Sysprep image I created back in January worked perfectly so it was just a matter of adding the XP key, joining the domain and letting them download the 34 (!) updates. However, the cheapskates bought them with E2140s and I have to say they seemed dog slow. I'll get a better picture tomorrow when they're all up running for some time but initial impressions are that they're no better than the 820Ds in the first batch.

Yup, pants @ stock 1.6Ghz mate :-( Had to wind mine upto 3Ghz to get 1500ppd from the best wu's, they love 2653's.. Also get a nice 100ppd boost from running Linux.

Every little helps tho :-)

Most of them have picked up 3404/5 WUs and are running at 113PPD compared with 102 for the 820Ds on the same WUs. The three that I configured without 'advanced methods' have picked up 2407 WUs and are running at 315PPD which is much better. The 820Ds give about 250PPD on these. So I've been removing 'advanced methods' whenever I use one of them and we'll see what happens when they finish their current WUs. I only borg one core on these PCs as their fans are too noisy if I use both and they're not on long enough per day to make the WinSMP deadlines.

Nice boost all the same! :p

Have you tried borging both cores on 80% usage or something? An E2140 is a much much cooler CPU than an 820D so I reckon they could manage a bit more.
