Robert Jordan has died

You might say he could easily have finished it years ago if he really wanted to.

RIP regardless.

tru, i stopped at around 8 because of a real fear he would never finish, sadly i was proven right.

i did the same to the dark tower series, and am waiting for george r martin to finish as well as i can see that going the same way...

Dont flame me, but, I have never heard of Robert Jordan. I just happened to come across this thread and clicked the link in the OP.

I read the quote from the blog writen by his cousin/brother and then came this line, please bare in mind I was glancing at the authors photo on that page just before;

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

I burst out into tears. The photo was so innocent and he looked so harmless. Then he was taken away.

That line will be with me for some time. Very sad to here this news.

Thats how the Silmarillion was written. It is basically a collection of Tolkien's notes (completed by Christopher IIRC).

However it is very obvious it wasn't written by the man himself.

My understanding is the Christopher Tolkein's name was on the cover, and he dredged up the notes and went through them, but the actual writing was mostly done by Guy Gavriel Kay.

As for Ice Rich's comment: I'm with you mate - he's clocking on a bit, and not in the best of health, and I believe that there are at least two more books to go after the fifth one finally comes to this country.

Rumour has it that Piers Anthony will finish it. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Got all 11 books so far in 1st edition hard back. Bogger.

I am sure i read on another forum, not sure if it is true however, that he had dictated the remainder of the book for someone else to finish off.

Second blog post does say he was putting things onto audio tape even as he was fighting the battle he faced, so looks like the book could be finished by others if everything was there to work from.

RIP James Rigney. I can't believe he's died, especially after his optimistic blog entries in Aug. I started reading TWOT in 1990 when the Eye Of the World was first released and have read and re-read the series many times - I'm currently rattling through it again from start to finish, on book 8 (A Path of Daggers) atm and was thoroughly looking forward to the 12th and final book. I'm certain it would have finished the series in fine style and justified his long hard work on what was a spellbinding and superb fantasy world.

RIP Mr Rigney and, if someone can finish the story, I hope they can do it justice as they've a very hard act to follow.
