Had a great session at a local karting place at the weekend. I noticed immediately that my kart felt a little unconfortable. As I sank into the seat it felt as though my weight was focussed on my lower left back a bit too much. Hard to explain, but it felt odd, as though I would have to be trying to shift myself forward for the duration of the session. I've driven karts at the same place before and not had this so it might have been my jeans/belt or something. As it turned out I soon forgot, got into the swing of it and had the most awesome time (final few laps I had lost all sense and begun growling and screaming as I left the corners). Probably the most exhilirating kart session I've had. My machine performed well, and just felt spot on.

Later on I realised I had whacking great mounds of swollen flesh on my lower back. Today (3 days later) the swelling has gone and I've got a pair of wounds healing. Pretty much looks as though I was scrubbing the skin (abrasion) along with the heat and sweat. God knows, I've never had that one before. Basically the two boney-points above my backside on either side. If that makes any sense at all.

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience? One thing is for sure, it's worth the discomfort for those laps!

My lower back was in absolute agony after my karting day at Buckmore Park earlier on in the year. Plastic seats, no suspension, and an outdoor track with raised curbing definitely took it's toll!

Not that I minded, because it was a great day out!! ;)

I always come away with war wounds after carting. All part of the fun. :D

Last carting day my brother was really sore the following day, fair bit of pain -turned out he'd cracked a rib!

Went carting whilst I was in Spain this August and have to admit that the seats were damned uncomfortable.

Went carting at the place (that used to be?) off the A40 years ago for an evening session and they actually gave you a padded jumpsuit to wear which really helped as again the seat were damned uncomfortable but the evening racing made up for it :)

I remember many moons ago (before most karts had sidepods) a belgian I was racing against put his front wheel into my ribcage mid corner and took us both off into the tires rather rapidly

I finished the days racing in some discomfort and after having been for x-rays at my local casualty found I'd broken 1 rib and cracked another.

As you said all part of the fun.

Hehe did karting aswell recently, work college side slammed me pretty hard and got some huge bruises on my elbow and inside of knees, thought that was bad at the time untill i woke up next day and nearly all of my body was aching lol and had such a stiff neck that lasted for 3 days :/ but it was soo much fun with all the pain i would still have gone again next day :D

Oh and on the subject of karting, just incase your ever in this situation take this advice. If your gf is infront of you, driving slow but managing to take up most of the track making it impossible to pass, a gentle tap sending her into a perfect 180 degree pirouette will not go down well. She will not find it as amusing as you. She will not ever forget that it happened. That is all.

Go karting is awesome, we had a company event at one called Red Lodge, a 32 lap sprint. Came third, had the overall fastest lap. Not bad for my first go ;)

karting is amazing fun. the best few times for me was in mallorca, although, the guys who run the thing aren't very lenient.. you do one thing wrong and they're like lecturing you on how to drive properly. they aren't even proper karts fgs lol.

my girlfriends dad has a Twin Rotax 250cc. that thing is insanely quick :p ive always wanted a go on it but id probably kill myself.

at the base of most kart seats youll find two screw heads surrounded by big plastic washers... on most biz karts ( one of the most common arrive and drive kart chassis ) these are just about the same height as your kidneys, and if the pit crew / site spanner monkey carnt be arsed to check / replace the washer you will end up with a pair of welts on your lower back. the way arround this is to wear a rib tec protector ( most quality sites require you wear them ) or to be a fat duffer and not move about in the seat:D

I opted for B;)

When I went karting nearly two years ago, my whole upper body ached the next day. Puts a lot of strain on the arms and shoulders I found.

Still, great fun though :D

Try doing a 2-hour stint in an endurance race! Knees were black and blue, back was bruised to hell and back and I had forearms like popeye! Was really eye-opening having done 30ish minute races for years beforehand.

Good fun though!

The exact same happened to me. My cart didn't have a cushion on it and all the others did, as it was my first time i didn't even know there were cushions.
