a friend has asked me to look at her two kids laptops, just wondering what if any tools i should take out on a USB drive, just wanna clean up things loading at startup up and check for any spyware and crap.

any ideas welcome,

I always see how many processes are running. If its more than 40 (in task manager) for a regular home PC I look further at what is really running.

Another good check is through MSCONFIG but I wouldnt alter anything here, just use it to see whats going on.

Regseeker is easy to use and cleans out plenty of null and redundant extensions and reg entreis.

Treesize is also good as is Process Explorer which shows you the manufacturer of the processes running too.

thanks butters i will try those apps and take on your advise mate, thanks

Treesize is filtered at work, but will have a go at home, what does it do then ? look at the sizes of files and folders?

Ad-Aware SE.
Spybot Search & Destroy.
RegCleaner.
C Cleaner.

Avast is Free for the Home Edition but you get an Email with the activation code in it which lasts 1 year. Great AV i have used it now for around 18 months with no probs at all. Fully tested with All major Pron sites :D
Low resource usage & no probs whilst gaming etc.
The other progs i mentioned are Must haves as well mate. Use those & you cannot go wrong.
