Howdy,

I have Vista Ultimate Retail and am currently using the 32bit version, but I recently upgraded to 4gb RAM so want to get the full potential so intend to chuck the x64 disc in and "upgrade" later amongst other things.

But one thing that is bothering me is something that didn't work with iTunes on Vista x64 last time I used it. I know iTunes works on x64, but the thing that was missing was the iTunes toolbar that appears in the taskbar when mimimised. It works fine in Vista x86!

If you have Vista x64 and iTunes (the latest version 7.4.2.4) can you tell me if this works please? If you don't know what I am onna bout, and have iTunes installed, please right click your taskbar and select "Toolbars > iTunes". then upon minimising itunes it should appear in your taskbar for easy access to the controls!

If memory serves me, on x64 the "iTunes" option wasn't even there, and I am guessing it is still the same, but who knows, they may have sorted it :)

It may sound like a little thing to many, but its a REALLY big issue for me, I work from home and have itunes running a lot, and its so easy having that there, right clicking, maximising are just not good enuff for me!

Thanks for your time!

Nor have I. Do you mean right-click it in the Vista status bar? There's only options for "Restore", "Minimise", "Maximise", "Close", etc as per a normal app.

In other news, 7.4.2.4 fixes the "CD Configuration folder vanishing when you upgrade/install in Vista x64" which was annoying a lot of people.

EDIT: Ah I see what you mean now.. no option for "iTunes" under "Toolbars", just "Address", "Links", "Desktop", "Windows Media Player", "Quick Launch" and "New Toolbar" here.

I doubt it'll ever be officially supported (Vista x64 that is) :(

What gives you that idea?
Microsoft started the push, slowly to 64bit with WinXP 64.
They have pushed things even further with Vista64.
Next time around there won't be a 32bit Windows.

What makes you think that the software houses aren't all working just as hard on full 64bit support as they are 32bit?

Thread revival!

Anyone with Vista x64 and iTunes know if this feature (read the thread opener) works now? I want to install x64 via Boot Camp on my Mac Pro to get use of my 6GB ram... but not if this feature isnt here!

Thanks peeps!

For some reason the website must decide what OS you are using and sends you the appropriate version of iTunes. When downloading with Firefox it downloads the 32 bit version, rather than the 64 bit.

If you use IE though the correct version is downloaded.

Taff

on vista 64 ultimate:
itunes installs as a 32bit app, menu appears in start bar (after its selected) appears to work. Network places is screwed up, so any network drives need to have a letter mapped to get it to register with itunes (still not 100%) - slow as hell took 12 hours plus to add 90GB of files etc.
