HELPPP!!!!!, my pc gone bust

Today I tried to upgrade my cpu with a conroe one, board is asus P5W deluxe with latest bios. All went well till I switched on the pc. Nothing happens, the screen remains black. The pc just stays on with all the fans and various parts *running*. There is no initial *beep* and the board doesn't ring any alarm beeps. I tried to remove the cpu and put the old one back but nuffin again:(.
I then tried to clear CMOS but it didn't do anything.
I tried to boot with no cpu to see how far it would go but still get the same problem. It would seem that the board does not recognize cpus anymore. Once the board its on the cpu gets hotter so there is some interaction.

Any idea what can I do to resolve this? I really need my pc back asap!:(

Try booting it with the minimum components connected so a single HD, vid card and a single stick of RAM to see if it boots. Also have you tried putting the old CPU back in to see what happens?

Yes i tried putting the old one back but nothing. The pc just stays on. Could the board gone bust?
 
Take everything out including motherboard.

Re seat motherboard and powersupply, boot - hopefully this will do something. If so carry on from there putting in one part at a time and booting until you hit the problem again.

If it doesnt do anything with just motherboard and power sounds like your board might be shot :(
