Hi I have just built a new computer with the following:

Q6600
Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
Abit IP35-Pro
2GB OCZ Ati
Samsung Spinpoint 500gb
Samsung DVD Drive
Evga 8800GTS 640mb
Corsair HX620w

Right now every time I try to turn it on it hangs on post error code 52 "Test all memory (clear all extended memory to 0)"

I have tried just one stick, both in different slots but no luck. This is also stopping my keyboard from working I think, so when I turn it on Num lock etc light up but then after that the keyboard is dead. I know there is definately nothing wrong with this.

The HDD seems fine led lights up, have got my sata and power leads all conncted up. Graphics card had pci-x power direct to card. Someone did say it needed the ATX4P1 molex power aswell but also tried that.

Im getting stuck now and need some advice. It did once go to the american megatrends screen but the keyboard did not operate and im unsure if there was an error code

Any help would be appreciated :)

Start with basics unplug everything but gpu and ram remove power cord from back clear cmos reseat gpu
just have gpu & 1 stick of ram in do not connect hdd or anything else try both sticks of ram in each slot at a time see if can get into the bios it could be a memory compatibility issue or keyboard issue even. Also try another keyboard can i ask if the keyboard is usb or wireless or ps2? try a ps2 keyboard.Go over everything making sure you have everything plugged in correctly the graphics card power the 4 pin 12v behind the heatsink the 24 pin etc.
Theres a 6 pin connector x2 in the bag that you plug in to the power supply and then to graphics card are you sure you have done this?
If all this fails can you borrow or get hold of a stick of 1.8 volts compatible memory?.

Yes the keyboard im using is ps2, its the one im typing with now.

Will have another day trying to get it to work.

Regarding plugging in the power connectors I have an 8pin 12v, my 24pin power. I have my gpu connected to a pci-x lead plugged in at the end of my 8800gts. I read this was sufficient. I think its working ok as the fan spins and can feel it getting warm and monitor displays the abit screen.

i have the ip35 pro and i use a 4 pin 12v one of the 4 pin has a black cover on it i dont use this.
It does sound like you need to change the memory or get another stick to get into bios and change the volts.

Just been tyrying again, tried just one stick of ram, then the other with just graphics card. Still stops on error 52.

I dont think its the graphics card as It displays the abit screen on my monitor and fan is spinning.

I have tried it without hard drive and optical disk drive. So I presume it must be my ram?!

However one of the first times I posted I think I initailly got to the american megatrends bios screen? but that was it nothing since.

C64 what ram do you use and did it boot up straight away without any problems? as I may need to buy some more ram to test and see if it works.

just built a ip35 and i had to manually set the memory voltage to get it to boot at all
check the manufacturers website for recommended voltage and set bios to this

Yes I would do that but I cant. It displays a post error code 52, and does not allow me to enter the bios. The keyboard num lock lights up when first powered but after that it is dead, probably due to this error 52.

So im stuck! Going to buy a cheap stick of ram, but need to know what definately works straight away without any hassle. Then hopefully I can get into the bios and change the settings for my ram to work.

Yeah its this http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_ati_crossfire_certified

I know the voltage range is 1.9-2.1 but that makes no difference, because I cant get into the bios to change it to 2.0 or 2.1. The default on abit is 1.8, so Im guessing this must be the reason?!

Currently it just displays the abit screen with tab and del, but as it hangs on 52 "Testing All Memory (clear all extended memory to 0)" Its stopping my ps2 keyboard from working. I have tried a usb keyboard aswell and makes no difference.

I might purchase a corsair 512mb stick of ram rated at 1.8 that is supposed to work and see if I can solve the problem that way.

u may be wasting your money because my ram is rated at 2.2v and it posted fine at 1.8. even loaded windows. just kept crashing after that until i put it to 2.2v

I take it that you have tried clearing CMOS?

Yes tried clearing CMOS, done it a few times now.

But still not much luck. Any more ideas?

What memory are people using that worked straight out the box?

i think it may be a faulty board......

where are you building it? have you tryed building it outside of a case, on the anti-static bag? (to make sure no short circuit)

Yes thats what I tried yesterday, had it all set up outside. With just gpu, stick of ram and cpu and heatsink. Powered it all up, but still couldnt get to bios, hung on 52. Tried different dimm slots and my other ram module.

Can I update the bios using a usb to see if that fixes it?

Go to Abit's site and download the v11 bios, make yourself a bootable usb flash drive and you're laughing.

I have always used FlashMenu to update from within Windows - but its strongly advised against, so go with your initial idea and flash from usb.

I have tried having a go but Im doing something wrong or its not working.

It still hangs on 52, would that stop me from being able to update the bios?

I have the hp thing, definately formatted fat32, have the system files and then I copied all of the files from the 11 update onto my mem stick.
