¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Me and a mate are going to Castle Coombe on Saturday - we both have a few laps booked.

My car is pretty much together (as soon as I put the new cambelt, tensioner, and waterpump on), and is an oil burner - dizzyless :D

But my friends 205GTI is misfiring really badly, and he has tried replacing everything (coil, ht leads, ignition module, etc) apart from the dizzy.

So............... If anyone has one he could borrow or buy, and doesn't live the other side of the country, please post!

Also, anyone else going to Castle Coombe this sat?

We're going to Rally Day and I have a spare dizzy (possibly more)

What type do you need and do you need the cap and leads? I think I have screw on and clip on types here. All mine are Bosch (orange cap) not Ducellier (black cap)

If you can wait until the day - I'm assuming the car is driveable just not very fast - then I can bring it with me.

EDIT

The other thing that often causes a misfire on the 205 is the fuel pump, they lose oomph after a while. Think a healthy one pushes about 3 Bar. Take off the fuel return and rev it, if no fuel is coming out of the pressure reg back to the tank the pump is probably past its best.

Unfortunately I don't have a spare for you to test it against - not without checking in my spares box anyway!

Yep, the car is drivable, but doesn't like to be revved, so not fast at all.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure what type of dizzy he has on there right now. It is a phase 2 J-plate 1.9 (which has been converted to an mi16 on carbs, but he has kept all his original 8v ignition system on there) - I have a feeling it has the orange cap (Bosch) tho.

I'll have a chat with him tomorrow, I think he'll probably need it if he doesn't get it sorted before Sat. I'll be sure to ask also what type he needs. He has still yet to try a different ignition module, but I'll tell him about the fuel pump pressure also - he may yet get it sorted before Sat.

Gah, I'm back home in Dorset on thursday/friday, the nearest I'll be to Bristol is Yeovil. No chance of a scrapyard jobbie?

Not really - he works 9-5, and most scrappies aren't open in the evening afaik. He may be able to get to yeovil tho...
No probs, if he needs it let me know by tomorrow night so I can dig it out.
Ok, cool. I should be able to let you know tonight with any luck. :)

I don't have a spare, per say, but I do drive a 1.9 gti - he could swap mine on to see if its actually that :)

I've just got off the phone with my mate and he says he will need the dizzy - if you have a spare cap and leads to try, that would be handy also (but not essential). I wouldn't have let you know sooner, but I've only just got in after finally getting my cambelt, tensioner and and waterpump fitted.

What time would you be getting to the rally day? It's just that we have to be there at 8 (drivers briefing), but he hasn't got any laps booked until 11am.

2 spare distributors, the one on the right is proven and has mucky but sound leads. Not tested the one on the left.

I will bring a couple of coils (untested) if you want to try them, and my spare fuel pump which I just found this very minute (easy to change, 2 clips and a few 10mm (?) bolts under the rear seats.

I'm not bringing tools though! And I need the bits back by the end of the day (will be leaving 4 ish I think - can't remember how long it runs but we have a wedding to go to straight afterwards)

PM me your number on Retro Rides :)

Exellent, thanks so much for this. :)
I'll tell him to bring a load of tools, and he should have the bits back before four. Heading over to RR to send you my no.
