I foolishly let my rear brake pads wear completely down and grind a nice groove in my rear kerbside disc. Toyota want £250 for a replacement pair of rear discs!

Is it possible to get them skimmed instead and if so what sort of place will do it?

Thanks

What car is it? You'll be able to get some 3rd party discs much less than that, I'd say around £70 or less for a pair.

You can, all its takes is a lathe and carbide tool. If they're nice and thick and hard to come by, I've done it before. I've also known a guy who skimmed a disk a little too much, it then snapped in half, sent him through a wall as I remember. If you're just being tight, buy some new ones.

They used to do this kinda stuff years ago - Nowadays, people just replace the disks...

Surely if you look around - You'll be able to get them cheaper than £250

Provided yours is the newer shape (03onwards), £88 for ADL ones seems reasonable. At work I would sell Quinton Hazel discs for under £50 a pair, Brakeworld (cheap'ish make) for less than £35 for the pair. ADL ones are a similar price to what you have been quoted.

edit: Thats inc VAT

Yep, ECP do pretty much every make of car now.

Do they? Their horrible website certainly doesn't mention it, and I see they still have Alfa Romeo listed but don't appear do any parts for them at all!

Their prices are good, but trying to find the bits you want on the website is like having teeth pulled :(

Yeah they started about 6months ago, they are very competitive price wise too, you will have to ring them though, the website is useless.
Ive had various parts for Fords, Jap cars etc.
I deal with them as a trade customer so im unsure if you get the same people on the phone, but they are very helpfull generally.
