OK I'm no Steve Jobs hater, but does anyone else think the pricing of this iPhone is grim?

£269 PLUS a MINIMUM of £35/month for 18 months.

That's £900 on a tiny gadget using the £35/month option!!!

I'm sure it's great but considering the iPod touch is also £269, it seems like you're paying an extra £600 simply to turn it into a mobile phone!

In fact it's disgusting. The phone should cost £269 SIM FREE and UNLOCKED to buy from the Apple store. Unless Apple are honestly telling me it costs much more to produce 1 iPhone than it does to make 1 iPod Touch.

Hey, why not?
People are silly enough to pay it so why not bleed them of their cash for a bit?
In a few months there'll be something better or a much easier way to have an iPhone at a cheaper price, for the moment though, it's high price for those who want it the most.
I don't even think it looks that great... Not sure why the world has gone bananas for it.

I pay £35 a month on my phone anyways but thats because I use it enough to warrant that, would not pay for that pile of rotten apple thought! :p

NS

People pay because it's a desirable item at the moment and I agree - it seems way over priced! I guess it's the "must have" gadget at the moment tho so there's a premium.

I have to agree, I only pay £30/month for a 12 month contract with a Nokia N95 free which apart from the gimmicky touchscreen can do everything the iPhone can, and more.

People seem to justify paying so much for the 'excellent' Apple design(s)... I don't know what everyone else sees in any Apple products but none of them look excellently designed to me, average products with above average pricetags.

I've got an ornge spvm700, it was free from orange, I'm not su about how it compares sound quailty wise but it is a better phone feature wise.

I too was shocked at the pricing. Not sure it's going to be huge in the UK.

The £35 a month is for the phone calls though, right? So its not £900 for the phone, to get a phone of that quality you usually have to pay about that per month, the only difference is you are paying up front a hefty wad as well.

I imagine in a month or two after launch, that you will be able to get it free with a contract.

I bought some new phones for work last week, i looked at the N95 but as was said, battery, phones crashing, and the poor build. I didnt want to wait till the 8gb version which rectifies the problem, so i went for the Motorola Z8 instead.

Be stupid to buy one now.

At least wait until the 3rd revision or so.

I'm sure there's plenty of Macolytes just waiting to part with their dough, though.

Heh - there are more than enough fools out there to make it successful. 6-12 months and there will be enough unlocked ones to destroy the enforced market that O2 and Apple are intent on making.

Even if it was that price, I'd get an N95 instead - unlocked, sim free, for less £££'s than that. ;)

I don't really like the iphone and probably wouldn't get one unless someone came to my door with a bag of stolen sim free ones for 40 quid a piece

hopefully that will happen

The good thing about the iPhone is that it will hopefully cause all of O2's competitors to offer cut-price bargains in the run-up to the iPhone release.
