Hi, i am thinking of connecting my PC to my 1080p HDTV. The TV has VGA & HDMI connections(but no DVI) & my graphics card has a normal DVI connection.
If i get a DVI to HDMI lead/adaptor will the picture look any better or should i stick with the analogue VGA? Is there much noticable difference in quality?
Also can i use the full 1920x1080 resolution over VGA?
Thanks.

if you can use VGA then i would recommend that. Using DVI>HDMI normally leads to overscan (where the pic overlaps the edges of the screen) and you lose quality when squashing it back in! :) Whether the VGA supports 1920 x 1080 will depend on the TV, i'd hope so tho on a modern screen

Eh

Doesn't that actually depend on the TV and its ability to handle 1:1 pixel mapping?

Every TV I've seen including 720p and 1080p sets have looked far better on DVI/HMDI digital cables and infact chosen the right resolution right away. VGA always looks blurred in comparison.

I can think of no reason you'd want to choose VGA based on my own experiences...

Yeah it's miles better for me on my TV (Samsung 37" M87) at 1920x1080.

Don't fork out for an expensive cable though. A cheap working cable will give you exactly the same picture quality as an expensive one due to it being a digital signal.

sorry, dont want to hijack the thread but a similar query.

Where does composite fit into the quality list with VGA and DVI then?

If you have your PC or console and happen to have all 3 sockets spare on the telly which would you plug it into in preference?

Component is an analogue signal, similar to VGA.

I'm using my 360 via component at the moment, as it looks better than VGA on my TV. It seems to vary from TV to TV though.
