2900pro 512bit Interface Confirmed.....by HIS

Do you guys reckon an Enermax Noisetaker 485 would be up to the job of powering one of these? I'd probably try and overclock the chip to xt speeds.

As a comparison, I have downclocked my 1gb XT to the 1gb pro speeds and ran a few benchies :

3D Mark 06 Defaults:
XT11400 +- a little
Pro10000 +- a little
Difference-13%

X3 Reunion Bench 1920x1200 4AA (+narrow tent) 16AF:
XT58
Pro39.6
Difference-32%

F.E.A.R 1920x1200 4AA (+narrow tent) 16AF:
XT45
Pro38
Difference-15%

IL2 1920x1200 4AA (+narrow tent) App Pref AF:
XT60
Pro53
Difference-13%

So it would generally appear to be around 14% slower (Not sure why X3 was so much lower than the rest), for around 33% cheaper, good VFM at stock, great if it OC's to XT ;)
Even the worst case of the test above still puts it even bang for buck.

Now if only they could fix the XP driver issues in 2D, and BSOD in GTL/GTR2 replays in XP ....

would anyone buying this card use 1920x1200 res ?

could you run them at 1680x1050

well i wont be gaming at that res .only got a 17 inch monitor.just want something modern that will play all the modern ie crysis cod4 games and not explode or look like a megadrive.also theres the price factor if these do the job good should be the midrange king.so hopefully this will play the games mentioned with decent settings at my reqired res yes/no?

The tests were done at a good res and AA/AF, So if it was around 14% to the XT at those settings in 3 out of 4 tests, lower settings can only be better ;)

How it plays Crysis is unknown, as the demo isn't out to see how the XT itself does with that.
I am sure there will be a few reviews comparing it to the competition when its released.

Im pretty sure these will turn out to be bargains! :)
Im only playing @ 1280x1024 so its all good really! These are gonna be ideal I believe and I also expect them to clock at least close to the XT levels, then we'll be laughing

Can someone with a 2900XT 512MB (yes XT) please declock it to 600Mhz core and 800Mhz Memory (GDDR3 not 4), and benchmark it please so we can get a rough idea of how the pro will perform?

Thanks,
Matthew

Look above, the 1GB XT is barely better than the 512MB, that should be a good guideline.

But we are changing clock speeds here, not just the memory type, I think it will have more relavance. I remember them saying something about memory speed becoming less efficient the faster it is on the 2900's for some bizarre reason. The core speed may adversely affect it.

If someone can declock there 2900XT 512mb to 600/800 (down from 743? and 825? then that would be great just to see how it performs. Thanking you :D

Matthew

It seems like a 15% performance hit really! Considering any movement we get on our clock speeds will do us very well indeed! The higher the clock you get the closer to the XT the pro will become :D I do look forward to these coming in stock but I bet it ends up October :(

I am currently looking at a card upgrade from my current x1950xt
To start with i was thinking of going for the 880 gts 640 mb card , but now i see so much hype and hope :D about the 2900 pro i am wondering if the 880 gts ( 640 mb ) card will actually be much better than the 2900 pro is hoped to be , and would the xtra money for the 880 gts be money well spent ? or a waste ? .

Wait it out. In about 3-4 weeks time it should be slightly cheaper and the reviews and threads will be flowing about the 2900 pro's. By then you will have a much clearer picture to help you decide.

Was thinking that as well , but also thinking that knowing my luck by the time that happens and i order one they will all be sold out :eek:

lol

To be fair I think il struggle to get one since im waiting until friday the 28th of september and no doubt they'll appear on monday or somethin :(

Would a 475W Enermax Noisetaker be able to handle this card?

Currently have an X1800XT, 3800+ X2, 1.5GB PC3200 and 2 PATA HDDs working fine, so just replacing the X1800XT

I would like to know this as well, as my set up is run by a targan 480w psu ,, The rest of the system is made up of an opty 170 @2.4gig each core, with 1 x dvd drive and 3 x hard drives ( 2 raptors in raid + 1 x back up drive ) , DFI lanparty board , 2 x 1 gig sticks of corsair.
will a 450-500w psu run these cards as well as the rest of the system ? or will a larger psu be required as well.

but other places sells it too and cheaper. ;)

lol still trying to find anysuch sites ,, despite me looking
