Umm.. Winzip is no longer free?

Sure, windows way of expanding zips and creating zips is long and messy. You have 50 zips to open, and you have to go through them one by one, extract, change path, extract again. With winzip, winrar etc it's pretty much right click drag all files,"extract here" and done. Adding files to existing zips is even messier with windows built in zip handling.

Btw, someone up there said 7zip does everything that winrar does. Not quite. Winrar is the only utility that will actually create rars....

If you happy to pay winrar is rather good. I did a head to head test between 7-zip and winrar on some huge (26Gb) files, and winrar was 10-20% faster (which makes a big difference for a 26Gb sized file).

Still it's swings and roundabouts, 7-zip has a chance to be more cross-platform compatible as it's opensource, however winrar has support for most main Operating systems.

I just use WinRar full version, it's the best one in my opinion, it does work to a certain extect without paying as well.

It used to be free didn't it? WinRar that is.

use 7zip, has better compression in 7zip mode than winzip and winrar

plus, winrar has the same licensing as winzip ...
