Anyone else eagerly anticipating this?

I really like the material I've heard so far, it seems as if they've taken a more guitar based approach this time as opposed to their more electronic efforts - although we can't really be sure until we hear the finished product.

The release date is still unconfirmed as they are still (to our knowledge) unsigned, but early 2008 seems probable.

They've also started (so it would seem) slowly releasing the tracklisting on their website - and in true Radiohead fashion they're being really cryptic about it. :)

I can't wait tbh.

They're unsigned?

Radiohead are currently unsigned, having fulfilled their six-album contract with EMI. In interviews in 2006, the band said that "for the first time, we have no contract or release deadline to fulfill – it's both liberating and terrifying". The band have stated that they will not make a decision on how to release their new material until it is finished.[2] Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has also hinted at the possibility of releasing EPs rather than an album, but ruled out the possibility of Internet-only distribution.[3] It is unknown whether the band has plans to negotiate a new contract with a label for release of current and future recordings.

Of course, they may have sorted something out in the past few days.

I'm not sure that Thom Yorke and the guys quite understand the meaning of the word terrifying.

Having enough cash to sit on your backside for the rest of your life and writing an album that record companies will be falling over each other in a bid to release it, doesn't sound that scary!

Looking forward to it though :)

I hope they come out with something even more commercially suicidal than Kid A. The pressure on this band has resulted in consequitively worse and worse releases. But yet people still flock back and hail them as Gods gift despite atrocious music. Echoing sentiments of Sweetloaf above, I would like for once to hear a bloody HAPPY record from them that reflects their circumstances (instead blah blah virus eating it's own host global warming running out of resources the presidents going to kill us all we're going to die hopefulness is futile unhelpful nonsense). That said I did listen to fitter happier and no surprises and as usual offer a truly insightful questioning into one's own desire to fit in, live a life of mediocrity in a BBC and government authoritarian style of what is good for you and what is not. Yorke's solo album is good too.

Barring the comment on Fitter/Happier and Thoms solo album I think that's all crap.

What a load of old tosh. The way Thoms voice sounds, it doesnt sound that 'happy' per se, but if you have been to any of their concerts you will realise how upbeat and exciting their music is, they are incredible live. (Of course they have some downbeat moments too!). For me Kid A is my favourite album, lets go more extreme, lets get away from guitars - The bends whilst beautiful, is a little bland and old hat - much like a lot of music around today. Lets here some more innovation from their next album.

Why do people get so hung up on how commercial music is? What happened to judging music on it's artistic merit?

Because generally, people buy what they like.

If lots of people like it, lots of people buy it.

Theres artistic merit, and then is radiohead, who in my opinion and yes i "have actually listened to them" are rubbish.
Its like listening to someone trying to throw up their lower intestine after a night on the ready mix concrete.

I love Radiohead.

If I listen to music after a night of heavy drinking I can ONLY listen to Radiohead. I don't care what album either I love them all.

Although unfortunately if I put Idioteque on after drinking I usually end up hurling all over the place, I just don't know what it is with that track it just makes me feel ill.

What an unintelligent theory - commerical music doesnt necessarily make good music. As an example the Sun is the UK's largest selling newspaper my far - and this certainly couldnt be called any good.

How anyone can say Radiohead dont make incredibly beautiful music I will nevr know! Have you listened to Sail to the Mood, No Suprises by any chance??

While I love Radiohead too, you've got to let people have their own opinions.

I have all the Radiohead albums and love them all, but hate Thom Yorkes solo album - I get the usual 'oh you're not a true Radiohead fan' ********...hmm...well I dunno how they came up with that conclusion. Radiohead is one of those bands you either love or hate - their music isn't as accessable as most mainstream music, which is why a lot of people just don't "get" them. For the people who do "get" them though, they're a treasure. But everyone's different and everone has different tastes - eg: Despite them being one of the biggest bands around, I can't stand the Rolling Stones. Nothing to do with them themselves, I just don't like the music.

Music noob.

Can't wait for this release, seeing as their contract with EMI ended with HTTT, there'll probably be a huge bidding war...

Oh and for people who are going on about Kid A being commercially suicidal and how they have no artistic merit, you listen to too much pop music...

Frankly I'd be quite happy with another solo Thom Yorke effort; The Eraser was probably one of the most accomplished and moving albums to come out of the Radiohead stable. Dark electronic beats combined with superb song writing and no experimental Aphex Twin style doodlings.

However, being one of the most popular bands of all time, producing arguably 2 of the greatest albums of all time, being massive in the 2 major music continents in the world and having such a heavy weight of expectation thrust upon your shoulders to deliver IS terrifying I'll bet :).

No, YOU dont think its a good news paper.
But lots of OTHER people think it is.
See where i am going here?
What you see as brilliant or dross, Lots of other people regard as complete toss or fantastic.

The real question in this mini debate here is, why does your opinion hold any more weight than mine or indeed lots of other peoples over something as subjective as musical taste.

This will be interesting.

Because your opinion happens to be tripe :p. It's a hard statement to validate, because as you said it's all subjective. But ultimately I promise you, it is tripe. You'll just have to take my word for it.

unfortunatly not.

Google top 100 bands, top one hundred albums.

In the first 2 pages, other than the "NME" polls, a magazine that is slated on here i found 2 polls with anything related to radiohead in them.

which i would hardly call world beating or world wide popular, not when such polls also contain the likes of "The Killers" being voted one of the best bands of all time in the very same polls.
