TF2 or Fortress Forever?

The TFC players are having exactly the same reaction to TF2 as us QWTFers had to TFC when it came out. It would almost be better if there were a huge difference between the games, but the differences are minor enough to remind you of the things and the feel you enjoyed in TFC not being in TF2, and preventing you enjoying yourself.
FF being around means the TFCers don't have to get used to TF2, just like there were still enough QWTF players around when TFC came out for us to ignore it. I'm sure if I'd have given TFC more of a chance I'd have eventually have enjoyed it as much as anyone.

I used to play a lot of TFC (haven't tried FF yet), and I am enjoying TF2. I'm surprised people are saying FF will be where the clans are since you could easily solo a lot of the classes in TFC but not so much in TF2. There have been many times in TF2 where I really get stuck on my own (especially without grenades) and realise how handy it would be to team speak for someone to come and help.

TF2 for me. Feel very much like TFC but without the nade spam.
Teamwork is essential even on public servers which really wasn't the case with TFC. A good medic/scout could dominate a game pretty much single handedly.
Much better balanced than TFC.
I have not tried FF and probably never will because it was the nade spam that turned me away from TFC in the first place. TF2 has everything i want from a new TF and will only get better with the addition of new maps in the future.
Hydro is awesome!

Dumbed-down might be a little too strong. Just a few things they've changed which has removed elements of skill I think.

- Medic is far too overpowered. Medic + HW gay = easy frags.

- Ability to construct a sentry with one click. In the original, you needed a lot of back-up to get a sentry built in a good area. Now you just run over, click the button and peg it.

- I've seen health packs dotted around some levels, what the hell is up with that?

Things like that really mate. The pace of things hold it back mostly for me though.

Nothing to make me say "OMG THIS SUCKS", just a few niggles. The small niggles is what makes the game though :)

Understandably people will say "well it wasn't suppose to be like the original!". Fair point, doesn't mean the changes are positive though.

I assume you didn't play TFC? For us old players, there's very little refreshing about it. As I've said they're very similar, just seems TF2 has more of the negative aspects. No doubt it's still a great game though, I look forward to playing both of them.

... What he said :)

Been playing TF2 some more over the past days. People have raised a very good point and it didn't really register with me until I saw it myself. The team element (even on pub servers) for TF2 is bloody great. It does seem no one player can win the game, really is a team effort. People can argue if that's good or bad (good for pub, bad for clan perhaps? I dunno). I'm starting to appreciate the small changes. I'm sure I will get many, many gaming hours out of both games :)

Agreed. It's good to see that most of the time on pubs people will change to needed roles rather than trying to play solo.

TF2 for a laugh (although being so god damn slow is frustrating).
FF for clan style gaming.

That's my opinion at the moment, can't take TF2s' GFX away from it though, absolutely love how 'clean' the game is.

been playing FF for 5 hours a night the last few days, i have TF2 also but it dont do it for me, some of the new custom maps on FF are georgeous looking, like flare and dropdown, graphics wise both games are similar, TF2 is just HL2 graphics nothing more just the same as FF really.

Have you played TF2?? Graphically and stylistically there is nothing else out there like it. I can understand some people might like FF better (it's not a bad game), but when they say TF2s GFX are the same as HL2 (which doesn't use the same cartoon shading model) and FF (which is pretty ordinary and average by todays standards), I have to question if they've actually played the game.

well seeing as fortress forever uses same hl2 graphics im a bit confused at these replys ? course i played hl2 or i could not play FF, and all TF2 is is like i said hl2 source engine just with cartoon models, the graphics are the same as HL2 and thats not a bad thing as there great, but models aside the games are simialr looking, its down to the map makers, go try the 2 custom maps i just mentioned.

doesn't TF2 have some kind of autoaim built in for console users, which puts me off straight away. ive been playing FF for the last week or so and im loving it :)

FF contains custom models and texture maps created by the makers of FF which are rendered by the HL2 engine, this means they might not be as good as say such models and textures created by Valve themselves. TF2 seems to use a modfield source engine which enables cel shading of models - this gives a very different graphical effect.

As someone who was number 5 on clanbase for tfc (with 5.5 million registrations at that point!), I gave up on tfc when it went to broadband and they changed the netcode and dumped the 'prediction'. Basically, you got owned if you had a slower connection than the person you were fighting.

Loved the game and had regular £250-350 bills for playing on 56k lol.

Soon as I can get a decent gfx card again, I will be playing TF2 thats for sure. Loved the team play, loved the manic action :D Loved being a scout and wasting just about everything other class :D (not to mention eng/sol/hw play... oh memories :D)
