Pencil volt mod for you 88gtx anyone?

Thats good cause I have only seen Pencil Mods for the Memory not Core on the 8800's before this.

Edit : Same old Mod's cant do pencil for Core, on Memory.

Edit2 : Finally found a Pencil Mod for Core, its a 8800GTS but that same Chip is on my EVGA Ultra although not as far back on rear of card, I will remove it later and have a closer look at resistors. :)

Hmm so I see why now, its very low to start with, so hard to pencil, even if you get it down being carefull it prob will not last long, its easier when you need pile on lot of pencil.

Normally Pencil is very safe (I can solder but want to Step Up card later possibly).

The fact the Core one needs so little reduction make the Pencil Mod harder, I will test all my pencils later to find one thats most resistive.

P.S, In all my Core Pencil Mods to cards I have owned since the 6000 series, it actually helps the Memory slightly, you WILL clock higher on it without modding.

hmm, my 76gt pencil modding proved different, for some reason i had to clock down a bit for it to become stable...

Also, if the core needs such a little recuction in resistance for a small increase in voltage, would it really mnatter that the voltage increases more, (except more heat etc, or is a not very steady hand going to increase ones voltage dramatically..)

The little drop in resistance needed does not mean a little gain in volts, you may give it 1 stroke of the pencil and end up with 1.6v on VCORE, thats the issue with this cards set up, on previous cards Ive owned you had to give it a good few strokes to raise it which is safer, pardon the pun lol. :o

I really am rather tempted to do this myself, mine is idling at 43°c at the moment, and load temps don't go above 56°c, surley a bit of a voltage bump won't do any harm... :D

I have almost same temps as you (40 idle | 50 load 650/1030)
I might give this a go next week.Last card I did the pencil mod on was my x800pro:D...Which worked a treat:)

I may just solder as I wont be in time for 90days step up with new top cards and I can remove with no real sign after its cleaned up

Makes mental note not to buy Helmutcheese ultra on members market in 6 months time......or examine it really, really closely first. ;)

840/2400

further testing to come, before i bring out the screenies, want to make sure it's stable...

pencil, vcore only, played the risky game and didnt measure the voltage, and yes its water-cooled.. aaan bed
