Fastest motorist to be sentenced

Is 800 metres an accurate stopping distance at that speed?
I'd have thought that was quite a bit too long. Even using the Highway Code's "formula" only generates a combined thinking and braking distance of 500 metres.

The Highway Code says braking distance at 60MPH is 55 metres. The new M3 does it in 34 metres. So, I imagine the Porka doing 172-0 would take quite a lot less than 800 metres.

I'd have thought it would be <250 metres tbh. Half a mile to brake from 172? Please...

I've never been to Germany before, but obviously the Autobahns are regularly brought up with regards to topics like this, but is the infrastructure there massively dissimilar?

Was the guy stopped by police, or caught on camera?

The circumstances are obviously different, but that many would argue that 159mph in a Vectra is inherently more dangerous than 172mph in a 997TT...

You can do 172mph in a 996TT relatively easily, it's probably quite safe to scratch your balls at the same time too.

Absolutely ridiculous speed to be driving at in such a well respected high performance car.

He deserves to be shot. Just look at his face. You can see the evil.

POT

KETTLE

shame on you its only 17mph more than your vmax escapades, :D

but then again its not an ultimate driving machine

wonder how long till someone else tries to beat his speed,

Did i read that right was he caught by a camera if so i thought they were supposed to be usable up to 150 only?

Jail time for this guy is totally stupid. Not like he hit anyone or caused any harm at all is it? They are merely making an example out of him as its high profile. It costs taxpayers to keep him inside, why not just fine him more and *make* money?

I dunno, according to the news earlier, at that speed, the car is travelling 3 miles every second.

:/

lol, that would be 10800mph! I think they said, or at leats meant, 3 miles per minute.

I dont know what the braking distance would be be 250M sounds optimistic. You're travelling at 80 meters every second.

Damnit!! you beat me to it, I almost blew tea on my screen when I read 3 miles per second, hadn't realised it was the enterprise that had been pulled up for speeding :D

 Just read that back

How geeky did that sound...:(

I think 10 weeks inside, losing your job and a criminal record is a bit excessive, but then so was the speed. Glad I never got caught when I did it ;)
