Top gear - Lambo LP640 V Golf GTI

Hello all.

For those who haven't seen it see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp37BvVmzfY

As you can see they compared a fast car to the Lambo.

In my opinion this was completely pointless, yes the GTI is a quick car, but doesn't stand a chance against a 330ci

So why not use a 330ci to compare against the Lambo? the 330ci is a a quick car, and imo would have been a MUCH better comparison, as the 330ci is just as common as a GTI (from what I see)

What do others think on this?

A 330ci is as fast as a Lambo and is MUCH faster than a Golf GTI? Huh? You having a laugh?

The aim of the segment I think was to show just how much quicker supercars are compared to 'ordinary' fast cars.

The 330ci isn't much if at all quicker than the mk5 GTI

Golf GTi is the most popular hot hatch, or the longest running hot hatch, or something.

330Ci, erm, not really that common.

It's an homage to a previous episode back in the days when top gear was only 30mins long. In parts it's word for word with the Diablo v Mk2 or Mk3 GTI test.

You misunderstood me.

I said, in my opinion, a 330ci would have been a better comparison to a Lambo. I didn't say it was as fast as a Lambo.

That I see, but I still think the GTI was a poor comparison to use.

They dont even sell a 330Ci any more. Why would it be relevant?

Because as lardo and slow as modern a Golf GTI is I'd much rather watch that against a Lambo than some boring Beemer.

That Golf looked horribly slow even when it went past the line at the end.

I think they should have done the comparison with a Gallardo. Then that would have shown how faster the LP640 is against a fast car.

Using a 'normal' fast car, it makes sense to use a Golf GTI, as everyone knows what it is. A hot hatch. People like them. If they were to put it against a BMW 330CI, then most people who did'nt know actually what was is, would have thought just a normal BMW.

In what way is watching a Golf accelerate any more interesting?

I believe it was to show the difference between a "hot hatch" and a proper supercar. A BMW 330 is not classed as a hot hatch.
