I tried to like it but the controls really are horrendous.

Watched my mates playing through halo 1 anyway and completed halo 2 coop so I'm not missing out on anything, the story isn't deep or involving but the multiplayer really shines through.

Visa versa mate - Are you suggesting that without Xbox Live - introduced into the SECOND game in the series that it wouldn't be played? Also I can see why you think the story isn't deep - because you haven't played it. There are 4 books based on the game so how can you sit there and tell me that the story isn't deep? Also how are the controls horrendous in the original? Their exactly the same in both games

Without live halo 2 wouldn't still be played anywhere near as much today. I have seen all the story H1 and H2 has to offer (read the thread), it's really not deep mate.

The controls are nowhere near the same unless you have toffee for fingers and suck at all 3 halo's.

edit: To expand on halo's controls, do you honestly think that halo 1 offers the responsiveness and consistency found in the halo 2 controls? It's not the buttons that differ but anyone can tell that the motion and aiming is vastly different.

Well, I am stuck..... extremely tempted to trade in my ps3 and games for an elite bundle and halo 3. Was gonna wait to xmas and get the elite to go with my ps3, but I might get another ps3 at chrimbo and trade for an elite now.

Get the 360, It's not worth having a Ps3 until a few months into next year.

The only difference I can see in the "controls" is that Halo 2 uses noobified auto-aiming and the fact that the sensitivity is defaultly faster. I could hardly say that Halo 1's control's are "horrendous"

You said "Halo is ALL about multiplayer" and now your talking about live? C'mon dude make up your mind the two things are totally different. I can see where your coming from when you say it wouldn't be played as much but the same thing would go if it was only multiplayer.

I still don't think you have improved on your point about the story not being deep, I normally try not to argue about these things but I cant sit back and let you state THAT when you haven't played the game, even playing through it the tenth time isn't taking in everything it has to offer - the story is deep and you wont realise that until you sit down and play it through. This is why Peter Jackson wants to make a Halo movie and why numerous authors are writing books and even now a comic series.

Halo 1 has very slow controls with what feels like acceleration used in a very strange manner.

Live is multiplayer.

I'll concede the story is deep for an FPS but that's really not hard at all. I've seen all the story, and not missed anything out. It just seems generic sci-fi to me with the generic human, swarm style aliens and technological alien races. Nothing special. The novels etc are all separate from the game though just like the starcraft novels don't magically make the StarCraft story deep :p

To needles, I would go 360, bioshock, halo 3 & mass effect all out or soon. What has the ps3 got that is anywhere near those?
 
Bah I was going to stay up all night (after picking it up at midnight) playing it, but I'm a bit tired already. lol

If I had to choose I'd get the 360, the PS3 is a 2008 console.
 
Had Halo 2 out for a couple of hours last night in anticipation of Halo 3's arrival.

Actually a lot better than I remembered, although this was obviously the enhanced version running on my 360.

Bring on Halo 3!!
