Hiya Everyone.

Firstly, Apologies for posting two posts within a short amount of time.

Okay. So Ive finally settled on either a Fiat Punto or a Renault Clio for the price of around £2500. Which do you recommend I purchase from your own knowledge and experiance, please note I will see both for myself aswell!

Fiat Punto;

2003 1.2 Active, 8 Valve

2001 Renault Clio;

1.2 Dynamique, 16 Valve.

These are the two cars I have seen, from what I have researched and read via these forums (Been searching all night) the 16 valve will be much "Nippyer", this is what I am after!

Regards,

Larnica :D

I've spent the last 4 years of my life selling new and used Fiat Puntos, and the odd Clio.

You are certainly right the Clio will be quicker, however it will cost more to insure and it won't be as fuel efficient.

Is the Punto a facelift model?

The Fiat Punto is a Face Lift Model :)

The Insurance is about the same (Just Checked) with the Renault Clio being slightly less. Hmmm, I will have to decide whats more important too me. The general conclusion that I have come to from reading these boards and asking my friends and relatives is that 16 valve will give a much better performance, mainly accelerating and Hill Climb, which if I am spending this much money might be worth it considering as I will not be commuting very far

Woah!

Anywho, saw a few Clio's, rang up but sold (Wish they would take the adverts down) :( . Im fussy and want a Silver/Black 1.4 :p

as in now? the accident was about 3 years ago, so ive no idea what the car is upto now, but after the accident it could move under its own power, yes

every panel was mangled, the roof was shoved about 6 inches to the passenger side, the passenger door (despite being shut) was forced out about 1.5 inches due to having dug into the ground whilst the car was sliding on its head...

but it retained a survivable passenger cell, my brother walked out pretty much unscratched.... so those cars have my respect. plus they were a total utter hoot to chuck about

I've got an 03 Clio 1.2 Dynamique.

Very happy with it tbh, it's my first car. When I was hunting it was a toss up between this and an sxi, except all the well priced sxi's seemed to be being bought just before I got in there :<

I've not at all regretted getting the clio, lots of features and very nippy (beat all my mates at college :p). The 16v makes it sound a lot more refined, and a little more eager too. Got in black too, so looks mint especially when I have an excuse to use the foglights :D. I've not had any problems in my 10 months of owning it.

However if you jump in it having learned in a corsa (like I did), you'll find the clutch much higher and gear stick further forward. This took me a few days to get used to, especially since I learned in a 1.7 diesel so I never really had to use the accelerator in 1st.
Only negatives with clio's, the interior can sometimes develop a rattle or the CD player may develop problems. But every car has it's problems.

Anyway, I can whole heartedly recommend the clio.

Seems to be the same with me and Clio's. Sort lots and lots but then got sidetracked and no there is non left :p

Is there any known problems with Clio's after a certain mileage?

Haha yer, looks like you need to be v quick to get a well priced car atm.

My clio has done 50k, and there's nothing wrong with it.

parkers.co.uk is good for researching about cars before buying.

Sure, 03 Clio 1.2 Dynamique Black bought December last year for £3800.

Which was a more than reasonable price at the time, undercutting price guides by a few hundred. Also got them to give me a free oil change :D

Can't say I've regretted it so far.

Awesome.

Im looking for a 1.2 or 1.4 In Black for around £3000-3200, seems almost impossible at the moment. Have seen one but its 77k miles, Im not too fussed on its resale as chances are I will keep it for a few years, just need to research up a bit on any problems with that kind of mileage. :)

Thanks

Had a clio 1.2 16V Dynamique 53 plate from new (Dealer pre reg) for 4 years, it was slow, the steering was poor, the electric assistance was pants, looked alright, safe and ok spec.

Try and get a 1.4 with AC if you can, its a hard call but i would prefer the clio to the fiat!

Missus has a 1.2 (2001) Dynamique. I drive it most days to work, and other than being woefully underpowered it's a great wee car. Get about 45mpg on average, servicing is cheap, tax is cheap, insurance is cheap etc etc. As a first car it's great, but if you're coming from anything remotely fast you'll notice how slow it is!

I'd go for the Clio :) My friend has rolled one and it was in good shape afterwards (well, survivable shape anyway). That, and they're quite nice cars to be in.
