Forecourt Spendthrifts

to the brim, every time. at least then i know if the car has issues as the MPG is likely to drop

last tank did 372 miles (since last sunday, somehow) and it was 45 litres to fill up

the car's computer said 38.5mpg average over that tank, i calculated it at 37.4 with my phone

which is right?

i was hoping someone else would get a calculator out to double check that i wasnt being a spaz (has been a very long day and ive had a beer since ive got in, im on the brink of falling asleep so double checking it wayyyy out of the question for me)

have a good saturday night y'all, im going to bed :S

I take it click to fuel light every time. The only exception is if I've had the fuel light on for 20 miles + and I've got no hope of getting to a decent petrol station. In this case if I'm forced to pay too much I'll stick in £5 to get me to the next stop.

How far does £20 get you in one of them?

I ran out in the truck about 35 miles further up the M5, that was driving an empty truck (i.e. no load) and only a 17 tonner at that. - So thats not that far then!

A loaded 44ton artic uses considerably more - I was showing an average of 3.8 mpg the other day, travelling from Shepton Mallet to Bristol pulling a full trailer....

- The A37 isn't a road where an HGV will return good consumption - lots of hills.

£2.30 into a BMW 1 Series. Which didnt quite take the guage to where I wanted it. So in went another £1.97 in a seperate transaction :o

You paid in pennies too, didn't you? ;)

What on earth were you trying to do? Force a relative to fill it up next?

No, return it back to the dealer with the same fuel it had when it went out. My local dealer NEVER gives you a loan car full of fuel. You get a quarter of a tank and must return it with a quarter in it. Real nuisance especially if you dont know how much you are going to need.

Much prefer being given a car with a brimmed tank and being told to return it brimmed.

The trick there is the same though, only putting in just enough to cause the needle to max out ;)

Now that requires an in depth knowledge of the cars tank.

The Punto can be made to say full with less than a full tank, but the old Uno needed a full tank to say full.

I filled my golf up once to the brim and then just top it up once it usually gets to about half a tank.

Now with the megane i just fill it to the top whenever and wherever :D
