New car few questions (172)

Cheers for the advice.

Just rung Renault up and been told it's an import! So no it hasn't got an alarm grr.

Also Renault wouldn't tell me what previous service history had been done to it which is pretty stupid imo.

I only understand the Distance to Empty and MPG function on it, what are the others?

thanks,

Off the top of my head, one is total miles, one is miles since reset, one is gallons used since reset, another is average speed, average mpg as you say and estimated distance until empty.

An aftermarket import? Won't that affect insurance?

I'd be pretty annoyed if I bought a car from a dealer and they wouldn't tell me the service history :/

Not so bothered about the papers as the major stuff has just been done and I fully inspected underneath the car etc and things such as shocks, springs were all new.

Plus it's got 12 months warranty at £2000 claim each time and wear and tear cover to cover my back.

What I am annoyed about is that it's an import, I asked him and he said no it wasn't. So not my insurance has to change or they put an alarm on which i'm hoping they will do.

Did you buy this from a main dealer???

The import thing is a problem but shouldn’t affect your premium, however you need a Cat 1 alarm on it. Otherwise you will find it isn’t insured.

Also for an import of that age and mileage they bent you over royally on the price.

This wasn’t from Reg Vardy/Evans Halshaw was it?

If I was you, I would be rejecting the car right now.

Alarmed or not it still may affect the insurance.

It does thats why i'm annoyed!

Mrk1 why should the price be any different? Looking on CS the values are pretty much the same. The only different things are the etched glass, locking wheel nuts and the alarm. The alarm being my main concern as it's not CAT1 as per UK spec!

Also as my warranty covers wear and tear do you think I could get the steering wheel done? LOL ;)

Imports book a fair % lower than normal ones and they will have payed rock bottom for one trade, simply becuase they were 5k cheaper to buy new.

Anyway reason I asked if this was a reg vardy/evans halshaw car was I saw one in this colour and 51 plate at my local dealers and the steering wheel was a mess

No it was at a place called MotoSeeker in Chesterfield, yes the wheel is crap tbh but that's the least of my worries atm, plus the rest of the car is spot on anyway. Like I said wear and tear cover ;)

I've only ever seen 1 ph2 under 4.5k and it was a cat C

I'd be seriously contemplating rejecting it too. Do you know how much it affects your premium yet?

Bear in mind that it will affect it for the total period of ownership. Say you have it for 3 years, your insurance will be pushed up higher than it should be for that time.

I'd be looking at some cash back from the dealer or rejecting the car completely. It isn't what you paid for.

I'm going in today to discuss the situation.

I'll let you know what they say. I know if it's CAT1 insurance isn't concerned (Direct Line)

I'll let you know

Basically dealer is ringing trade standards tomorrow, i'm constructing an email to send to dealers basically telling them the situation as to why I want a damn alarm.

He was saying 'what if I can get cheaper insurance for you' etc. So he knows he's in the wrong. I really like this car though but if they are being idiots about it what can I do?

PS I'm very impressed with handling and need to get this on track asap :P

And yep the limit increased to 7250 when warm niiiice.

Has anyone got pics of rain sensors on windscreen because my windscreen might have been replaced at some point which explains the auto wiper situation.

It being an import probably WILL NOT affect the insurance save for the fact it hasn't got an alarm.

It's not a grey import, a la Mitsubishi FTO or similar. It's simply a Parrallel EU import as your car is from a time when a HUGE number of new cars were imported from Europe was they were cheaper. Provided the car is UK spec there is no reason it should affect the insurance.

^ What Fox says ala import status. When I insured mine it only had to have CAT2 security which is does as standard so you'll probably find your covered all the same. They are worth slighty less though if the buyer knows about it.

The auto wipers should sweep once on the first click which tells you the auto wipers are set, the dial on the stalk then adjusts the sensitivity of the wipers. They don't work that well if the screen is greasy from dead flys in the summer etc and they also fail to work if the screen has been replaced and they haven't replaced the gel pack that goes between the glass and the sensor. Has it got a renault screen? Or an aftermarket replacement?

Place on stand road off sheff rd? I've driven your car lol

Lol yep! What did you think:eek:

Fox the issue is the alarm, it's not UK spec as it doesn't have an alarm, locking nuts and etched glass apparently.

I've hear insurers try and void insurance as it's cat2 instead of cat1 so i've got to mess with insurance again now and i'm paying enough, why should I pay more because the dealer didn't know or tell me about it being an import ~(even if not grey)

The screen says RAC on it so it looks to have been changed at some point! Damn I wanted those! How much are Renault screens as i'm sure my window excess is £50 so worth replacing?

Hmm could do as my excess is ~£50 i think. I can see all the sensors at the top of the windscreen though? What's this gel pack I keep hearing about?

Just taken it out for a quick blast with my mates VXR and we did a few rolling starts in 2nd and up to 60mph he has about a cars length advantage. Now in my MK1 i had the nose on him! So i'm a bit disappointed there. However by 100mph he has about 2cars lengths, which is far far better than the MK1 (i had a passenger also. Got to say that VXR is a lovely car though.

On a few starts I noticed power dropping in 2nd? Does this thing have traction control? How do you turn it off as I don't like it :P

Afterwards I took it round a few country lanes and I can't get over how good this thing handles!! I'm not the best driver but it was filling me with confidence. It just felt planted in the bends and kept gripping, no hint of understeer at all. The steering feels very connected to the road (does that make sense?) and the weight is good, even at higher speeds.

All in all pleased with this car, still sorting the alarm issue out with the dealer though.
