Hi all,

I will shortly be updating my rig to be ready fo 45nm goodness, I am looking at the Ultima 90 heatsink from Thermalright. This looks to be exactly what I want because I will be able to mount it pointing vertically, which cools better in my case, and also it seems to be up there with the "big boys" of air cooling.

Am having trouble finding any user reviews/views and I also need to know if it will be available in a pushpin model for LGA775.

Here is the Anandtech review

Any information you guys have would be great; try not to confuse this with the Ultra 90 which is also available from thermalright and isn't as good.

EDIT - Thanks bobby - links fixed. Work posting=Bad posting

I just bought one of these for my upgrade. you need to remember to buy a fan for it as it doesn't come with one.

Temperatures seem good with it, but i never installed the stock cooler to compare. The reviews I read say it is an excellent cooler.

My only gripe is that the fixing mechanism isn't great. While fiddling in my case I've knocked the heatsink a few times and it rotates itself. it needs more friction between the heatsink and the clamp.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

I ordered the Ultima 90i from OcUK, its a great cooler, however, mounting it is a pain (more specifically mounting it and keeping it secure is a pain), this has been a common theme and is due to the centre brace not applying enough pressure to all four corners. Some people mod this by putting a coin under the brace or a piece of cardboard.......this help tighting the screws and stiffen the HSU to the CPU. Lap it and the CPU for real gains.

My U90i is partnered with a 1200rpm Scythe. q6600 temps peak at ~64c running @3240, idle is 39c.

Thanks for the input. It seems like a great cooler foiled by thermalrights failed installation. I did read one of the reviews hinting at a 775 pushpin like the intel standard fan, and like the Ultra90. Think I may just fly ThermalRight an email.

What is the base of the cooler like? Is it misshapen and does it have obvious machining marks like the Ultra 120 Extreme?

mine had machine marks on the bottom iirc but i didn't lap it. is it worth lapping it? how much difference will it make to temps? surely the thermal compound fills the inconsistencies in the heat sink base.

I didnt test my HSU before Lapping as it was a replacement for my Scythe Ninja Rev B. (its cooler than that though:)
