Anyone know what winsock is in windows?

Hi, mate has pc which won't access internet. Error message come up saying that winsock - i think - needs reset. Anyone know what this is?

Winsock?? I haven't heard that mentioned in years... It's the Windows Sockets stuff, runs all the TCP/IP comms.

Its still in there...

google "winsock fix" and you will get a little app that resets all the reg entries.

Thanks, would a problem with this prevent a modem connected by an ethernet cable accessing the internet?

Possibly, if its the most common form of the error then yeah i believe it does. as said above google 'winsock fix' very common problem

Yup same here. Can be handy for corrupted TCP/IP settings. Dont use it much these days tho.
