All,

Looking for a camera in the £200 (+-£25) region. Simple point and click.

Like the look of the Canon IXUS range and a mate has recomended them, but thought I'd get a few more views.

Cheers

Fuji F50 fd. has all the bells and whistles. Very good camera.

only draw back is the 3x optical zoom. But with the 12mp it may be acceptable for what you need. crop away tbh.

Not the F50, go for the F31fd imo. 12mp is stupid in a compact, for what it is going to be used for mainly in most circumstances anyway. Only thing 12mp would give you is stupidly sized pics that fill a memory card in 10mins. 3x optical zoom is pretty common in most compacts, if you want zoom you have to go bridge camera generally.

Megapixel = nothing on a compact. From initial looks at the F50 it seems to be better for outdoor although probably negligible and with the jump to 12mp and sensor means more noise. The noise bonus was what made the Fujis stand out before for anyone with sense. Image stabilisation is not a substitute for high ISO unless you are shooting completely static targets and in that instance get a tiny tripod.

If you want a fairly no thrills camera the Ixus 60 is alright, very compact and stylish and is generally pretty decent.

If you want a smallish sized camera with good zoom capabilities then the Panasonic DMC-TZ3 is a nice camera.

Possibly not quite as good as the Canons for picture quality but I would say the OIS is better on the Panasonic and if you are printing the photos off then there wont be much/any noticeable difference in picture quality.

IF you are going to be taking a lot of low light photographs then the Fuji F31FD would be the better choice as I think that handles low levels of light better than the others in the compact camera range.

TZ3 is a great camera, brought one myself on eb HongKong; 4gb sd card, tripod, spare battery, case and uk plug converter - £210 ish.

Wide angle lens 28mm pretty cool too! oooh x10 optical not bad either :D

Just got myself a F31FD like pretty much everyone else on this forum, shapes up pretty well. Good for low light that's for sure!

Agreed with the F31fd. I bought one of these as a handy camera for when I didnt want to be carrying the SLR. Okay, ive compared the image quality between the SLR and the fuji and its unfair as the compact always looses out - But... as a pocket size camera that works well in low light, its very good. TBH a fair amount of the pictures will be reduced in size for use in facebook anyway!

Well f31d seems to be winning the day so far.

Anyone got any others before I go out and spend the money?

I still maintain what I posted above, it really depends on what kind of pictures you will be taking the most.

Personally I would opt for (I have one) the Panasonic TZ3 purely because I like the zoom capabilities and I don't take many low light photographs.
