OcUK TF2 Community Server

This is precisely why I refused to take anyones money :p

Going to try and fix it, somehow.

Ok added.

Here's the deal with the server at the moment, after tonights failure of a test.

Currently each user utilises about 10% of the server CPU, restricting us to 10 players, which is a long way off 24 I mentioned in the OP. The problem is this, the server runs FreeBSD and uses linux binaries, these binaries are currently only available in i486 form, which quite frankly makes them very unoptimised and rubbish. "But other servers run 24 people fine!" I hear you say, this is because they're using Windows as the server OS and there are i686 binaries available for them. It's just a case of having to wait until Valve pulls their finger out of wherever they have it and sort out the i686 binaries for linux.

Sorry :(

I'm gonna try playing on the server tonight, have we all got reserved slots now?

No reserved slots at the moment because we aren't actually paying for it yet. PiKe is still in the phases of testing everything. It wasn't full last night anyway so I'm sure it won't be too busy this evening either.

Also I'm not around at all tonight and I havn't had chance to instruct the other admins, it's limited to 10 people at the moment until I work something out.

Changing to Windows is a possibility but would rather not.

Does testing not involve making sure the slot system works though?

There's no script available yet to implement a slot system, there's no native support for reserved slots in the engine.

Ah, so I guess we have to wait for the full release of TF2 as thats only when they will release the scripts needed to do this right?

Well the SDK which is used to write these scripts won't be out until TF2 is officially out, so yes, we won't be able to properly reserve slots until TF2 is fully out.

If anyones around, could you please join 87.127.75.20 to test CPU usage, run around like a mad git and spam grenades as demo.

Right, my friend is driving the 75 miles to Maidenhead at the weekend to install Windows, hopefully this will solve it.
