Are black cars more expensive?

You don't want a black car unless its brand new really, otherwise it will be covered in swirlmarks and just basically a complete mess even after you've just cleaned it. Factor in thin crappy paint on a Citroen and it will basically always look a state.

My black Citroen did - when the sun came out instead of shining and looking amazing it shined and showed loads of awful swirls.

Get a lighter colour.

Black is great and can look good. (not an issue for somebody who washes his/her car every other day)

Gibbo's Mustang springs to mind.

My car looks ok still (but, not close up) after a week & 180 miles of driving.

I've found keeping the wheels clean helps the look of the rest of the car. :)

According to Parkers, Black is the best colour to buy a BMW like mine in, funny as I am yet to see another Black one in the Stoke area!

IIRC black was originally an 'extra cost' option on some cars due to the level of additional prep required when painting them (as it shows up flaws in the underlying paint and panels very easily).

Not sure if this is the case any more though :)

Get a Gold VTS like me :p Doesn't show up swirls at all and hides dirt well.

Was desperate for a black one but was a case of non about as opossed to a higher price.

Saying that, a friend got a Black VTS and paid £600 more than I did for my Gold VTS!

2001 Y Plate Gold VTS, FSH, Exc condition etc = £2900
2001 51 Plate Black VTS, FSH, Near as good condition = £3500

/Two cents.

Get a red one and put white wheels on - tis what all the cool kids are doing these days!

LOL, I'm not bothered what the "cool" kids are doing, i want the car to look good to me. If i did get a red car I'd respray the wheels black to match in with the black trim  . In fact if anyone could photoshop the silver wheels on the red car above to black that would be much appreciated.

I really wouldn't mind cleaning my car all the time, i find it quite therapeutic :D. If it was covered in swirls etc then id possibly look into getting a buffer and detailing it myself. I'm not going to be commuting at all as i get picked up in a van, so it wouldn't be getting mucked up every day.

I'm saying all this but i don't know if id even fit in the car yet. Ive been too busy with work to go and look at any, but I'll hopefully get this weekend off. There are no other hatchbacks i like the look of really, especially in my budget of 3k max. I should fit in OK, even if i have to modify my legs lol.

Black cars are a mare to keep clean looking. My first two cars were black and I've decided to never have one again :p

Silver 4tw.

Agree, my Clio looks great after a wash and polish, for a few miles then it's back to normal.

Black cars look great wen clean and polished, but it generally doesn't stay that way for long.

To the poster that mentioned their ford didn't look too good in black when clean. The ford black paint job on the focus especially is prone to swirls.

Insurance goes up depending on the colour too, from what I heard the sporty red look makes your automobile more attractive to unpreying eyes.

I'd go for dark red, dark blue, black or white (cleaned of course)

i thought black were cheaper??? due to it being a standard colour rather than a metallic?<<<<this is going on a brand new car....
When someone I know bought a primera 2 years ago, the reverse was true. Black was only available as metallic, and so was a £350 extra on the standard colours.
