Just thought some of you might be interested in the Shell Mastercard that they launched last week...

www.shell.co.uk/smc

6% back on Shell fuel in the first 2 months, then 3% back afterwards, and 1% cashback on any other purchases.

Nice discount if you usually fill up at Shell and always pay your bill off in full.

I applied last weekend and got a letter with my credit limit and another with the PIN number today, so they seem pretty speedy.

This would save me about £79 a year if i spent £55 a week on fuel only at shell, so about 600 free miles per year, not sure its worth it tbh.

Just for paying on a different bit of plastic, surely it's worth it? :p

But for having yet another credit application under your belt, even if being accepted isn't going to be a problem, having too much credit can be detremental to your rating.

So is it worth it for 600 miles a year?

Maybe maybe not but everyone needs a cashback credit card for day to day purchases. 1% beats the 0.5% I'm currently getting from Morgan Stanley and I spend a air wedge on fuel over the year between our two cars.

I personally wouldn't get another card just to use for fuel though.

Only if you cant afford the repayments. Its simple, pay for your fuel on the card, pay the full balance each month.

Something for nothing is always worth it, especially when there is minimal effort involved.

Yeah AFAIK its outstanding credit that they take into account when looking at your credit record, not the amount of potential credit you have. I could be wrong on this but thats what I was told when applying for a mortgage.

LOL! Only if you make the crappy £5 min repayment (in which case, should you (generic you) really have a CC in the first place).

Repay the bill in full every month and Credit Card companies hate you. Credit Rating on the other hand, loves you.

hmm tempting especially as Odeon have an offer on atm whereby if you buy 2 tickets with a mastercard, you get 2 free.....and i go to the cinema quite often! Combine the two, and you're on to a winner :)

God, do you lot do nothing but whinge!?

I'd have loved one of these when I was using two tanks of fuel a week for work for a few months. Unfortunately I've just stopped, but regardless, my pin number dropped through the door this morning and I expect the card will for nothing.

Unless you've gone crazy with them, one credit card application isn't going to hurt most people's credit rating.

I did that the other week. Forgot to put it on my Egg money card for cashback though, D'oh!

Around here shell works out 2-3%* more than tesco petrol plus you get club card points, and if you shop there every 6 months or so theres those 5p off coupons also

(*iirc 95.9 shells vs 93.9 tesco)

around here shell is exactly the same price as tesco, sometimes a penny less!

Last time I was in MK I struggled to even find a Shell, and the one I did find didn't have any V-Power so I gave up and filled up at a BP instead.
