I currently have a 7800 GT and Crysis MP and Bioshock are just laughing at it. Now I am currently contemplating a BFG 8800 GTX OC, which will help me reach 1680 x 1050 with no problems. Now i would wait the next generation card, but its meant to be a mid range. I suppose the thing is, live for the now!!

Same situation here, and I'm opting for a GTX. Just can't wait any longer. You can always upgrade when a new top-end card arrives.

GTS :p

No point in waiting really IMO...also there are some GTX's for sale in the MM for a nice price.

The GTX would be a huge jump from the 7800 you have now.

I went from a 7800gt to GX2 which was a massive boost. Then to a GTX as the GTS's perfomance was too similar to the GX2.

The GTX prices are nuts as they have not budged much if at all. In fact some seem to be selling them for a little more.

If your budget is limited then the GTS 640 would be my choice as it's a great mix of value vs performance. However, if you can afford a GTX it is a very very effective piece of hardware! :)

You will!

That will be a mighty upgrade.

My upgrade route consisted of the following:

9800pro
(your 6600gt probably fits here)
x850xt
7800gt
7950gx2
8800gtx

All that money - i think the x850 was my most expensive card @ £285! :(

Well its wither between the OCUK GTX or BFG OC 8800 GTX. I mean £40 difference for a overclock you can do yourself...

Who needs lifetime?

But you might need more than a year and secondly after a year and you are selling it second hand you will get more money for a card with lots of warranty left compared to a card with no warranty or very little left. You might get a lot of your original £40 difference returned.

My graphics card broke 2 days after its 2 year warranty ended. I will never forget that day... 4 year warranty minimum for me now!

Im in the same situation as the OP im not sure whether to buy a GTX now or wait , when exactly are the new top end cards due from nvidia ?

Just get the GTX, new high-end cards are not supposed to be coming until next year, its just new mid-range cards coming in November as theres no point Nvidia releasing yet another high-end card as AMD are already 2x cards behind, they have no competition out yet for the GTX, and none for the faster Ultra, so Nvidia's got the high-end sewn up.
