Edge reviews Halo 3.

Is this copy of Edge even on the shelves yet? Has anybody read the review? Perhaps judgment on Edge should be witheld until people read the reasons WHY it gets a 10/10. Perhaps they liked the single player but thought the multiplayer was so good that they thought it deserved the highest mark possible.

I've yet to play it in multiplayer myself, I want to finsih singleplayer first. At the moment I think it's one of the best games I've played for a very long time but perhaps after I've had a go online I'll give it a 10/10 myself.

sorry but NO WAY does this game deserve a 10 ....

even a 9 would be pushing it - a solid 8 - 8.5 ...

it just feels like UT2004 .. both graphically and gameplay wise ...

the 12 maps don't seem much for multiplayer either ...

already feel a bit bored with them to be honest and only been playing for 2 solid evenings - I mean they are fun - but by no means "wow"

I don't deny the multiplayer game is awesome (although I have yet to play the multiplayer game) and have never dismissed it, but the fact is the game as a whole doesn't deserve a 10/10 because there are better single player games out there.

Multiplayer has always been Halos strong point. Surely you knew that before you bought it. Should Bioshock be given a poor score because it didnt have multiplayer?

Just because Halo's strong point is multiplayer doesn't alter that fact that I was expecting something special for the singleplayer game, especially given all the hype the game has had.

And when did I say Halo deserved a poor score? I said it doesn't deserve a 10/10. I've already said in another thread I'd give it 8/10 tops. 8/10 is not a poor score.

I never liked any of the HALO's they all were all hyped up to be the best shooters ever only when I actually bought HALO 2 and played it for 6 hours and finished it the only thing that was half decent was the cutscenes, then I bought Halo, but it was like playing Doom again, graphics where terrible, the controls where slow and there wasn't even a lot of monsters! Gears of War is the only console shooter I've ever liked except Doom3 co-op

I say bring on Timesplitters 4.

Oh for god sake, seriously?

Timesplitters? Gears the only console shooter you like? Goldeneye?

People are talking about Sp and Mp, and discounting Fotrge and saved films.

Especially forge which is a HUGE feature.

Essentially makes Halo 3 infinitely replayable

Im sorry but no game deserves 10 /10 no matter how good it is.. That essentially saying its the ebst game ever made and cannot be bettered..

But some Halo 4 (if they made one) it would no doubt get the same again. anyway.. it'll never live up to the hype, no game ever does. Especially 10 / 10 hype.

1 = 1 - 10%
2 = 11 - 20%
3 = 21 - 30%
4 = 31 - 40%
5 = 41 - 50%
6 = 51 - 60%
7 = 61 - 70%
8 = 71 - 80%
9 = 81 - 90%
10 = 91 - 100%

agreed, had an AWESOME time playing around on forge with some mates earlier, it started out innocently with us all stacking crates and quickly turned into us trying to drop various things on each others head :D

Basically what Edge have done, is the same as the Academy did with Lord of the Rings, they gave good reviews to the first two films, but then showered the adulation on the 3rd, rewarding the whole series.

Its a theory anyway :)

Few games deserve a 10. These games cannot be disputed.

Zelda OoT - Mario 64 - Deus Ex - Final Fantasy 7 - Half Life - Goldeneye

Halo 1/2/3 how can it even compare its a generic shooter in ever way. I just cannot see the greatness everyone else sees and I do love FPS and science fiction. Its like everyone here is under some Microsoft induced spell!

well all i can say Edge are not what they were years ago when i used to buy the rag and yes they must have been given a back hander total bull that score.

Just because a game is critically well-recieved doesn't mean that the critics were bribed.

Might I put an alternative, non tinfoil-hat based theory? The game is good. It's loaded with juicy solo and online content and well worth the money. Clearly Edge thought so as well!

7 hours of juicy solo content? and what does Halo multiplayer have that every other first person shooter doesn't? Just different skins and maps nothing new to the table.

1.) I defy you to complete the game in 7 hours on legendary

2.) it has immense replayability in single player not to mention co-op.

3.) Forge, show me another console shooter that has that? an excellent video editor, an incredibly customizable gametype creator.

I see what your saying but to me there not stand out features that justify the higher ratings.

Just to throw a curve ball in here, do you think there should be two different scores for games with single and multi player? For example if a game is rated 10/10 because the online Multiplayer is amazing, yet the single player is lacking ( not a reference to Halo3 by the way) is that right to score it a 10 if the people who dont play online never expereince the best part of the game? Do you think a mag should score say SP 7/10 online MP 10/10 total score say 8.5/10? One of my friends from work doesnt play his 360 online at all and has no intention too, saw the great reviews for Halo 3 got it, finished it , moaned about how it wasnt all that and dont deserve the scores it was getting, I did point out that Halo is about the Online IMO. I just think many people look at the final score without reading the whole review, so at the end of the review to score each part of the game and a kinda average of the whole experience, then people would see exactly how the game would be for them. Another example The darkness had a great single player game and a poor multiplayer, if you wasnt really into the SP game the game would be a let down for those wanting the MP bit.
