Edge reviews Halo 3.

i agree partly, games should have a single and multiplayer score but the overall score should be the highest score, not an average.

So lets say Halo 3 is 9 for SP and 10 for MP it should still get a 10, then Bioshock which id say is 9 for SP but 0 for MP would be a 9.

well regardless of whether you like them or not a lot of people do, and they are features that set it apart, maybe thats what edge saw in it?

That justifys a 10 out of 10 mark? Because those other great games I mentioned I can create a list of good quality features that goes on and on and sets them apart from every game at the time.

10/10 seems overkill but shame on Edge for adhering to such an archaic scoring system... imo you can't trust accuracy on review systems that rate whole numbers out of 10. It's ridiculous, they should use a percentage system.

yes, id say most of those were 10/10 games as well (not goldeneye imo and although I think FF is crap a lot of people seem to like it)

I hate scoring systems out of 10, they should all be percentages, this way we wouldn't be having this problem, HAlo 3 would have got about 95 or so and that would have been a fair mark.

pretty much shows that you know nothing about gameplay design.

Oh please care to elaborate? Every game has a few really good levels and some dud ones. Has Halo 3 got every map/weapon spot on that makes it so different to other online FPS's.

Shamikebab I do agree with you about the mark out of a 100 rather than 10.

Whilst true, the fact that they seldom ever give 10's is a testament to the quality of the publication.

Halo 2 was the almost perfect console FPS multiplayer, obviously 3 stems on from that. Multiplayer is the major aspect of Halo.

First let me say I didn't mean to come across so arrogant.

The reason Halo is revered is its sandbox coupled with the spine of every fight, the way Guns, Grenades, and Melee mix together, yeah its been done in other shooted, but no game has done it with such a finely tuned balance across all the components of combat.

Whatever weapon you use has a perfectly balanced cost and effect associated with it, this extends to when and how you mix your use of grenades and if you dual wield there again is a cost associated to it, that is balanced.

Couple this with the vehicular combat and balancing, unlike most other shooters the vehicles are integrated into the game world, they aren't there for a "section" and they all serve multiple purposes.

Ultimately Halo affected Console FPS gameplay design immensely from using grenades without having to change to them, to health regeneration and "two weapon" only action. Not to mention every shooter that comes out now seems compelled to have at least one or more of those conventions applied.

I dunno, it just feels right.

Maybe im crazy.

yeah if anything the weapons feel a lot meatier than 1 and 2. Especially the plasma weapons which in most games feel a little soft, pick up the plasma turret and its like you can almost smell the seared flesh.

it shouldnt deserve a 10, no game does imo (except MGS2 that was perfect lol :p imo ofc) Because halo 3's single player is ment to be pretty average, but the multiplayer amazing, so it should get an 8 or 9.

its not though, its excellent with only one duff level imo. Entertaining story, very varied levels and lots of different weapons and vehicles to use.

sorry, its that ive heard from some people that its very good, but others have said things like 'terrible' or 'dire'. So maybe it is good for some, but still its very short.

well some people have said bioshock's single player is terrible or dire. I think Final Fantasy 7 is terrible and dire. In the end people will never be united over a game.

Do you not think that the guns feel 'soft' and lack 'oomff'?

I do, you may as well be waving about harry potter wand. The whole thing feels weightless. The sounds rubbish, the weapons largely uninteresting and the GFX rival Call of Juarez for "have I bought the 360 version"

You aint gonna convince these kids of anything, they grew up with it. Its part of their childhood memories. I remember thinking Pole position was the nuts.

They aint gonna see that they are playing a last gen game on a new gen console.

I suggest XBLA maybe more up their street ;)
