Thought it was boring and repetitive and not scary at all. Would have preferred it to be a creepy horror thing like Undying or System Shock 2, but it looks like its just a pretty basic shooter with some silly characters. Didn't like the way the demo was all set in a dark dungeony place, hope the full game isnt going to be like that or it will get very dull very fast.
Verdict: meh
Yep^
Simon says 'combat' just adds repetitiveness ala the superb Farenheit where you learn and re-learn the button patterns until you succeed. The dungeon visuals were good, but looked very rough. Characters looked crap, are we dealing with a heavily untweaked Unreal 3 engine here? It looked like.
To start with, from a technical point of view, I was surprised to see it start up in 1080p, and maintain a good framerate, obviously it looked nice and sharp, and ran smooth.
From a game point of view, I was initially impressed. I wasn't expecting a lot from it, and downloaded the demo "as it was there" and free The atmosphere and graphics were great, and just as I was getting into it, the "Simon Says" part happened, falling down the well, as has been commented above. Took me a number of attempts to get past it, and I was that annoyed by the time I did, it put me right off the game. I was considering looking around the online stores for the cheapest price at first, but that totally put me off.
was looking forward to this but the simon says bit has put me right off, cant for the life of me get it to work!!! perss the button when it appears..fall and die..wait for button sequence then press ...fall and die over and over. im obviously missing something and feel stronger glasses may be needed!
gawd.....sussed it now...still not purchasing it due to this
I really like it, but then I have nothing against the odd QTE here and there, as long as the rest of the game holds up well, which I think this does.
So that's PES2008 + Stranglehold + Jericho all released on the same day.
Poor wallet
I don't know what people have against QTE's. If done properly they can be very enjoyable, as shown in God of War.
I just look at them as interactive cut scenes. The only time they are a little annoying is when you have almost no chance of doing it on the first go (which is definately the case in Jericho). Then it is more a case of simon says, memorize until you get it right, which is not fun and kind of missing the point of what a good QTE should be.
Downloaded this last night but really didnt get a chance to play it properly. But from first impressions it seems pretty good although a bit confusing...one part that confused me loads was one of my guys had fallen and it said to go up to him and press 'A' to revive him....ermmm well i did that but to no avail...so wasnt really that impressed.
Saying that though, i dont know if ill get it tbh...seems a bit too hectic in places. I know its a demo but im going to have to give it a better try tonight when i get a chance.
I thought it was ok, the "Simon says" bit wasn't a bother, it's just something different to do in-game; a bit of a gimmick (like it was in CoD3) but I cannot see why it would put anyone off buying it
It looked quite nice, reminded me of Undying (as it should), but just seemed to lack atmosphere...
I'll more than likely give it a shot when it's out, I can trade the steaming pile (aka Halo 3) towards it
