2 days ago I was on my Steam account in a public cafe. After playing TF2 for abit I decided to revisit CSS as I hadnt played it for a while. Upon joining a game on Dust 2 I noticed that the textures of the indoor areas were see through and that I could see into the room down the stairs. Thinking this was odd I consulted my friend via the community tools and he suggested it may be hacks!

Now, I was on my own Steam account which means if it was infact hacks, the vac will ban me and remove my games! After shelling out almost £40 on the Orange Box and Company of Heroes I am worried that I will have ultimatley wasted my money as my account will be vac banned!

I thought about emailing Valve but my friend said that given their zero tolerance policy I willno doubt be banned straight away! I am extremely angry that using a public computer could lead to me being banned for hacking! I can only hope that it was a texturing issue as there was a warning before the game that the video card drivers were out of date.

Its bugging me to hell as I have spent nearly £200 on Valve products over the years and to lose this money cause some idiot wants to cheat sickens me. Has anyone else ever been in a similar position to me!? I really dont want to lose these products but at the minute im starting to settle into the realisation that I eventually will :(.

At least you'd still be able to play the games in single player. That's more than I got when my steam account was mysteriously hacked.

you may be okay, i had this happen to me ages ago on my old 6800gs and i never used any hacks, sure it was a driver problem

you should be fine...the security on css is crap tbh. i used to see ppl cheating quite often...only a bann from admins used to get them off the server.

punkbuster is far better and css needs it badly.

That's because VAC doesn't ban people instantly.

It's not perfect, but then neither is Punkbuster. They both do their job pretty well.

Its the wait that kills me, not knowing whether or not im gonna be banned. Oh well, I suppose ill just have to enjoy it whilst I can then.

As rak says it could have been drivers on the machine. I remember back in the days of Quake 2 I used some drivers from Nvidia and didn't remove the old ones properly, which oddly led me to being able to see everything through walls (players, rockets and so forth) when I was moving around but not when stationary.

Although if you weren't playing that long on the machine that had this issues in case it was proper hacks then you may have got away with it. If not, can you not seek money from the people that run the public machines for having hacks on their machines and offering STEAM access at the same time?

Aside from what has been said above, why are you using your own account at a lan centre, you never do that....

Were you just cheating and worried you're going to get banned?

Read the original post I made, I was playing TF2 beforehand. No Orange Box means no TF2. The cafe is apart of the University, so if anything does happen to my account it is somewhat likely ill ask them to try and find out who was hacking.

PiKe, how can I check my CAV standing?

Settings page I think.

You still shouldn't be using your steam login from a LAN cafe... they are supposed to have their own.

I suppose you can only learn from your mistakes really. I was only using my own account there anyway as I was awaiting my pc delivery (came today so theres some good news :D). I definetly wont be doing it again though.

As for my VAC status, im still in good standing. Cheers for the help with that PiKe. Its quelled my fears for the time being.

No thanks, BF2 etc can keep punkbuster. As long as you play in a server with good admins, it doesnt matter.

I doubt it was a wallhack or anything so you should be ok :)

Haven't seen you playing TF2, will have to have a game some time :D
