Edge reviews Halo 3.

Well after saying I wouldnt get it becuase I didnt think much of 1 or 2, I fell for the hype machine when getting my food shopping last night, as soon as I walked through the door there was a huge great big display with loads of copies stacked up. so i chucked a copy in with the shopping.

Had a quick blast last night, I didnt have a clue what was going on with the story, i guess it helps a great deal if you have played 1 and 2, would a recap for those that havent been to much to ask?

Initial impressions wernt fantastic, the score is very impressive, as is the voice acting but the graphics were very underwhelming, the charater model in particular looked pretty week.

My old bugbear soon showed its head, the main reason why I didnt get on with the 1st 2 Halo games, the weapons and enemies. I dont know what it is, but I just dont like laser guns in games, they seem to have no umph to them, there quiet, weak and quite frankly dull, I had it blaring out through my 5.1 setup and the firefight sounded pathetic (im gonna try and look in the settings, see if I can make the guns louder). there is just no satisfaction to using any of the weapons. As for the emenies, I know its going to have aliens in it due to the game setting, but do they really have look like my seven year old designed them, its like your going to war with CITV. Sorry, rant over, I just like to have proper grunty guns and nasty looking sods to blaze down in a shooting game, atacking pink & perky with a feather duster just doesnt get me involved.

Ill stick with it as the reviews have been quite something, so there must be something im missing. Im sure if it had proper guns and decent ememies I would be loving it. the actual fighting seems prtty tight, and the multiplayer options are really something special, fans of the series are gonna be playing this for years.

I'd give Halo 3 about 93%. Really loved the single player, for me it was better than the first.

Regarding Edge's score though... no it shouldn't get a 10, there are plenty of better games out there and really no game ever deserves a 10/10 as there is always something to scrutinise in a game release. It's the problem in general with a X/10 or X/5 system. Percentages are far better because you can be more specific, ie. X/100.

The enemy design is a natural evolution of the universe and story, the colors and "citv" look are because of the art style.

I find it incredibly refreshing that everything is vividly coloured and designs are unique as opposed to drab greys and browns filling my screen.

I know what you mean about sound, i thought that at first but then things started exploding and the grander battles began, and I shut up.

Turn the sound up ;)

The scores are because of Single PLayer, Multi Player, Forge and Saved Films altogether in one package.

Where's alrik?

If you mean why I'm not posting about it? Because I really cannot give a toss about this whole subject anymore, a few scores from a reviewer really isnt going to effect my enjoyment of the game, so just let the 'haters' and 'fanboys' fight to the death over the subject as far as I am concerned :p

I would rather be having a laugh in multi-player like I was last night with rocket-race, everyone was howling all the way through and it was such a laugh with 16 players (8 teams of 2).

No it's not.

On consoles name a single better multiplayer shooter.
A 'better' shooter is all personal choice which I'm sure you'd disagree with my 'better' shooter. The fact is, the gameplay is basic, please tell me how new and complex Halo 3 is in the gameplay stakes.

Yes and the majority believe Halo 3 is the best shooter online.

I prefer realistic shooters like rainbow, but Halo is still good and system link is brilliant fun. Its such a good social game, either online or off. Go play some splitscreen with your friends and see what you think!

Its better balanced than ANY other shooter, the pros and cons of every decision you make is pertfectly weighted.

As far as doing "new" it doesn't have to it started every convention in FPS games since Halo 1.

Vehicles in gameplay, two weapons only, regenerating health, grenade use without swapping weapons, all and more started and were honed in Halo 1.

I meant as in, why isn't he in here talking about what an awesome game it is. I couldn't give a flying **** about the haters, they're wrong. I hope you're enjoying it matey. Do you think it's better than Halo 2?

Well that's all your opinion, I happen to disagree, it feels basic, looks basic and plays basic, that's my opinion. Each to their own I guess.

Have you guys played Warhawk ? it does splitscreen and it is very balanced - how does Halo 3 compare gameplay wise ?.

I played Warhawk the other night and for the first time I though 'This is brilliant', it took me a few hours to get like that, so it's definitely a great game, however I'm bowled over and blown away by what Halo3 offers in terms of depth in multiplayer.

It's brilliant.

However, I do see JBeck's point, it is very much each to their own. There are many popular games I've played and I just can't understand where the praise comes from (Resistance [in Single Player] being one of them), it really is each to their own.

Thats very arrogant and condescending. People are intitled to thier opinions - if they dont like the game or some aspects of it then that does not mean that they are wrong - they just have a different opinion to you.
