Edge reviews Halo 3.

I do, you may as well be waving about harry potter wand. The whole thing feels weightless. The sounds rubbish, the weapons largely uninteresting and the GFX rival Call of Juarez for "have I bought the 360 version"

You aint gonna convince these kids of anything, they grew up with it. Its part of their childhood memories. I remember thinking Pole position was the nuts.

They aint gonna see that they are playing a last gen game on a new gen console.

I suggest XBLA maybe more up their street ;)

You don't like the game then? I never saw that one coming.

it'll still be the most played game on Live, just like Halo2 was, that in itself is what people really wanted, it had a begining, middle and an end and told the story well. I suggest all Halo3 haters who brought into the hype should go out and get themselves a PS3 with a copy of Lair, then see what hype is about, lol

Just thought I'd comment on a couple of posts, not really to discuss the 10/10 rating because as proven by this thread, everyone has their own opinion :)

Basically what Edge have done, is the same as the Academy did with Lord of the Rings, they gave good reviews to the first two films, but then showered the adulation on the 3rd, rewarding the whole series.

Its a theory anyway :)
Edge gave the original Halo 10/10 as well. In fact, Halo is the only series that Edge has given more than one 10/10 to. The other games being Super Mario 64, Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Gran Turismo, and Half-Life 2.

10/10 seems overkill but shame on Edge for adhering to such an archaic scoring system... imo you can't trust accuracy on review systems that rate whole numbers out of 10. It's ridiculous, they should use a percentage system.
The scoring system has long been debated by Edge to the point where they released an issue without review scores at the end of the review. This was also to debate the problem of people looking at the review score without actually reading the review (a bit like what's happened here - I've only seen one post where someone has commented on the content of the review).

The problem with a percentage system is the whole "does this game deserve 82% or 83%?" and if Half-Life 2 receives a 95% score and Halo 3 gets 96%, does that mean the latter is better? Not to mention low ratings - does anyone care if a game gets 32% or 39%? What's the difference?
I actually prefer the 1-10 scoring system. It's nice and simple, and informative without causing unnecessary debate - if HL2 and Halo 3 get 9/10 or 10/10 then it's not so much about Edge saying one is better than the other and more a case of them saying they are both two of the best games available.
The only real problem I see with the 1-10 system is for some reason people see 10/10 to mean perfection. I've never thought of 10/10 to mean a game is perfect - that would be ridiculous. It simply means that the game is at the pinnacle of what's available right now.

I suggest all Halo3 haters who brought into the hype should go out and get themselves a PS3 with a copy of Lair, then see what hype is about

At least Edge got the score right for Lair :p :

Halo 3 (Xbox 360, Microsoft): 10
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii, Nintendo): 7
Project Gotham Racing 4 (Xbox 360, Microsoft): 9
Sega Rally (PS3/Xbox 360, Sega): 7
Lair (PS3, Sony): 3
Stranglehold (Xbox 360, Midway): 7
Skate (Xbox 360, EA): 8
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 (PS2, Atlus): 7
Singstar (PS3, Sony): 8
Two Worlds (Xbox 360, SouthPeak Interactive): 4
Grimgrimoire (PS2, Koei): 7
Jam Sessions (NDS, Ubisoft): 6
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (PSP, Square Enix): 9
Eternal Sonata (Xbox 360, Bandai Namco): 7
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations (NDS, Capcom): 6
Sonic Rush Adventure (NDS, Sega): 5

Poor Factor5 - save your image and rerelease Turrican 1/2/3 on XBLive and the PS3.

I think, and this is purely my opinion, that Halo3 deserves the 10/10, although I've yet to finish the single player yet so I reserve the right to change my mind.
For the following reasons
1-Graphics, anyone who says it looks last gen needs their head looked, perhaps the character models could have been more detailed, but the textures and the maps are pretty impressive. No gears of war but better than plenty on the 360.
2-Physics, i was well chuffed when my player died and fell into a river today, the body floated on the water, caused ripples and moved with the flow till it stuck on the bank. I cant think of another game with vehicles you can just jump into and fly around, the jumping, crashing and grenade blasts all show pretty special stuff, even th environment moves, it might not be the best but the physics are good.
3-Forge i have barely touched on this but in my quick look, it seemed pretty worthwhile an certainly a unique feature. My bet is that this might well be H3's best feature, its yet another string to its already impressive multi player side if nothing else.
4-The video playback, I don't know of any games where this feature is as detailed (feel free to let me know) there have been replays in games for years, but the camera movement, record ability and screen shots make it good, but i was amazed to find that i could just fly randomly about the level or track any character i wished letting me see my weaknesses online and alter my tactics, its simple and works.

Halo3 three may not have the best graphics, or longest single player (although i seem to remember gears being disappointingly short) but what it does have is nice physics, excellent game play, epic sound and spot on AI, its multi player is the best around, its got forge and movies. It may be bettered by other games in individual sections but find me a game which betters it as a whole across the board and then tell me how it isn't well deserving of its score. Thats how its rasted as a whole game, a complete package not just as a single player or as graphics, If there is a more well balanced game for the 360 then let me know I want to play it.

Spot on mate. Single player is fantastic, my internet is down but if the multiplayer is anything like Halo 2 then it will be fantastic too. I can understand some people not liking Halo 3, but there is no doubting the majority of the public and the media are loving it.

Edge are one of the better game magazines, they don't give out 10's for anything. In Edge a 6 is a game probably worth giving a go too. They aren't suggesting Halo 3 is perfect, just one of the best games you can currently play.

I get the feeling some people hate Halo 3 because its the cool thing to do. I'm off to play it again :)

I've just finished a 3 player co-op session and can't remember the last time I enjoyed a fps campaign this much. We also spent a few hours playing with the Forge - spawning every type of weapon, vehicle and equipment, and messing around and fighting in every conceivable manner. Then everyone went to bed and, like a sad git, I watched over much of the carnage again in the theatre mode - awesome stuff :)

Halo 3 deserves 10/10 simply for the amount of conetent it boasts - there are literally 100's and 100's of hours of fun to be had here. Months are going to be spent trying to improve scores and unlocking everything in co-op, mastering Legendary, and thats before even getting into the multiplayer, which has more features and options than any other fps. Epic in every sense.

I agree with most of the posters here that 10 out of 10 is 100% in anyones book and suggests perfection - no game is worthy of this. You trust Edge ? - surely you must be thinking again right now.

I haven't played Halo 3 as I dont have a 360 and the concensus seems to be that its the multiplayer that makes Halo 3 - the single player appears to be weak in comparison.

Now, the multiplayer in Warhawk (PS3) is supposed to be perfectly balanced across vehicles / weapons etc. The graphics aren't up to much but thats because of the draw distances etc but the actual game (multiplayer only) is supposed to be incredible fun - most of the people here on this forum who played it have said so.

Now who has played Halo 3 & Warhawk ?. If the multiplayer gameplay in Halo 3 is way above that of Warhawk then Halo 3 is indeed a great game.
