ok put this together so far & wondering if someone would be kind enough to give it a quick check over? As the last time i looked at pc hardware & built one was 5 years ago & the old girl is starting to show her age :(

Don't need an OS as i can get Vista x64 from work. As for the Physx card is it really worth it or is there not much point? Also should i get an third party cooler, ive read the Tuniq Tower is a good one?

Also want to hook this up to 2 monitors & im looking for recommendations (was thinking 19" but whatever really)

There isn't any point and I would drop the PhysX from your spec to save money, it'll not help you in the slightest.

Tuniq Tower is an excellent choice, however it has trouble fitting onto that motherboard you have suggested. If you wanted complication free-alterantive then I would look at another board or another cooler, such as a Zalman 9700CNPS or Thermalright Ultima 90i. If you did want that board however then the Tuniq Tower only fits vertically, therefore I'd pick another cooler aforesaid.

The board however is good, but I would recommend getting the P35C model as it's the same board, £7 cheaper and also comes with DDR3 support, so helps you futureproof a little bit.

The power supply is way over what you need, and I would get the HX520W model for your needs.

For the graphics card as well I would look at the 2900 Pro. It's just an underclocked version of the 2900 XT and it's VERY good value for money. It's in limited supply however as ATI are not making a lot of them so you could get a nice deal on that graphics card and if you wanted to make it a 2900 XT then just overclock it to the 2900 XT levels and be happy that you pretty much got a £240 graphics card for £170... plus it's cheaper than the 8800 GTS OC.

Rest of the spec however looks excellent

I'm not sure how much use you're going to get from the physics card, but otherwise it looks a good spec :)

One change would be to drop the physics card and upgrade the graphics card to 640MB one. Revenue neutral change, but better for games by a large margin.

Ok, well here goes... really dont bother with the BFG Ageia PhysX Accelerator waste of money, really big waste of money...

and OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-6400C5 Dual Channel Vista Gold Series... only get this if your not going ot be playing games, that also goes for Vista 64 bit

oh forgot to say i'll be wanting to play games, along with doing the odd programming in visual studio for work
& thanks for the replies so far i'll scrap the physics card :)

right if your playing games, just get 2Gb of RAM and dont use Vista, at all, just use XP for games for the time being, Vista and games dont mix

ok so what would people recommend?

a) stick with the mobo & get one of the coolers mentioned (or another one)
b) get a different mobo that'll work with the Tuniq & if so which?
c) stick with the mobo & the stock cooler

I'd opt for B, and look at getting the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P (£88~, also note the "P") which doesn't have any problems with the Tuniq Tower 120. Alternatively, if you didn't want the Gigabyte board, then I'd recommend you get the Abit IP35 (£97~) or the Asus P5K (£95~). All of them are on the P35 chipset, support raid and have dual PCI-E lanes and some other bits and bobs, so you can't really go wrong with whichever you picked.

ive looked over the thread & took in some advice & come up with the following, can anyone point out any problems or issues (i know there's no OS on there as i can get one from work looking at Vista 64).

i plan on using this for games & all sorts of other stuff & will probably be overclocking :)
