Car park paranoia

Never had a problem in the works underground car park, but then most people use the same spaces every day (even though no one get assigned a space) so the 1 or 2 people who I normally park next to seem to care about their cars and the way they park.

Tescos down the road from me, well I'd go as far as saying I have a top 5 parking spaces I prefer to park my car in that I feel protect my car the most from possible damage.

I will also happily drive past a space if either of the cars next to the space are dented/obviously not cared for, or if I notice that they are rental/lease vehicles.

LOL sounds similar ..Also own a 52 plate Skoda fabia was absolutely mint when we bought it our lupo never got touched whilst parked.

But this one no matter where its parked someone seems to scuff the bumper! sick of t-cutting scratches out too.

I give up theres some flippin idiots around.

I get paranoid parking my car too and its only a 306! I usually try and park my car next to nicer cars, I avoid parking next to older/battered cars or people carriers (children).

Sounds stupid but if I dont look out for my cars well being no one else will!

Ditto, same kind of car and same level of thought :) I also like to reverse park and since this takes more time, I'll try and reverse park beside others who have done the same.

BeatMaster :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets this. It really annoys me when people don't extend common courtesy to parking their cars - it costs nothing to carefully open your door and hold the edge to make sure it doesn't bump another car.

Luckily for me, the car park at work has an overspill section where nobody else goes. They all think i'm a nutter but I don't mind walking an extra couple of metres to avoid dents and the likes :)

It doesnt matter that its just a 52 plate Skoda, its YOUR 52 plate Skoda and you enjoy keeping it in good nick. You've just as much right to want to avoid dents and dinks as the owner of a Ferrari.

Iim *** same mate, and my car is a shed in comparison to others. Hate suopermarkets, ill be right at the back where there isnt anything living, never mind a car.

Pah, if she said that's the gayest thing to me I would have had my instant anti-gay smart comment.. "YOUR gay!"

And if I was in your position I would now be making a thread in GD about homophobic comments in the workplace getting me fired.. :p

I'm on the other side of the fence here. I've got a 10 month old 'prestige' car but I don't take any special care over where or how I park it.

I've got more than enough stress in my life to add to it by worrying about something so unimportant. If my car gets dented I'll have to have it repaired before the finance company take it back but otherwise it's no great hardship.

I like my car, I enjoy driving it but I've got no emotional attachment to it. It's just a commodity. Perhaps if I bought it for cash things would be different and I might take a little more care where I park but constant paranoia that someone is going to damage by 'baby' would drive me insane!

To quote an overused cliche, "Life's too short, man" :).

I've just had my car de dented

usually I'm very careful about where I park but I still managed to acquire a series of dents on the door.

The tesco in Exeter was great for parking though, because the added a huge bit to the car park on the side of the store, so very little extra in the way of walking, but it was either usually empty or 'full' of people parking in alternating spots :D

all this and I drive a 92 clio.

I park in disabled / children and parents spaces in supermarkets and as far away as anyone else in normal car parks.

Seems to do the job.

Assuming you have no children / are not disabled, how pathetic are you?

oh, and for the record, supermarkets are cracking down on it now, giving £60 fines if you park where you shouldn't ;)

I park in two bays if its quiet, or go and find another nice car to park next to, less likely they'll damage yours I think.

id say theres more people with the intent to dent your car than not , so , no you do the right thing! :D im the same. i dont care what anyone thinks though! :D

In Farnborough station, people usually park well as I assume they are London workers with nice cars and probably are careful and hence do not worry (touch wood). However in the residential car park in front of my house, I can take 5-10 mins waiting for a good parking space, because there are plenty of idiots who park at an angle, especially in their ford transits. The fact that the parking spots only have markers at the corners and not all round make it harder to judge.

When they do park at an angle and in almost my space, I make a point of parking my car really close to their driver's door but do take a picture of both our vehicles so that if I notice a scratch in the morning, I have proof of who it was. I also leave notes on cars of people who park poorly. I try to be very considerate and park right in the middle of my bay as much as poss.

I care about my car because I have spent a lot of money on it and invested a lot of time on it aswell, but it has come to the point where its got quite a few dinks and scrapes on it and I am at the point where I dont care that much anymore. If I did I would spend half of my life getting furious about things I have no control over.

Ive tried parking at the other side of the empty portion of the car park but it just seems to be a magnet and attracts other people to park next to it when there are loads of other empty spaces.

I'm also paranoid about this. At the moment on my 1995 318 BM' i'm just resigned to the fact that it's going to happen and i can't do owt about it, but when i upgrade soon i'm expecting sleepless nights. or, as my home car park is small and quite empty usually, restless days while it's parked on the local toys 'r us/comet/BK/JJB sports car park with all the, well, let's say stereotypical people that work in such places.

as a counterpoint, though: do you not worry of the increased risk of being deliberately broken into, as opposed to accidentally/carelessly dinged, with parking away from everyone else in a more isolated quieter bit of car park? (question posed mostly because taking this stance earned me the loss of my lovely stereo, oakleys (stupid for leaving them there i know) and two years of NCB last september)

Already happened :( It was a contributory factor to my sat nav getting nicked.

Thats why in that particular supermarket I just park in a parent and child space. If they have a problem with it I'll happily tell them exactly why I do so.

I'm ashamed to say that in Tesco I now park in the parent and child spaces :o Even that doesn't always work because the mothers seem to think that the areas between the spaces are a perfect place to leave the trolley they've just been using :(

Good job we have got rid of the car park attendant then! Im overly paranoid about where I park at work, ive had dings and been reversed into fairly hard juding by the damage done to my bumper. I aim to park next to cars I recognise or that are driven by people on the same shift as me as its much less likely to be hit and if it is I know who to slap. Tesco car park is a minefield, on numerous occasions ive seen people hit cars and drive off. One poor lady had her new BMW driven into by some old duffer in a Rover 600, he hit it going in the space and then hit reversing out. He didnt get away and I ended up with £20 of cinema vouchers.

I was really anal when i first got the car, and for the first 3-4 months i was uber carefull, but when you do the kind of mileage i do, its just bloody inevitable :(

Plus nowadays on most cars the finish seems to mark so easily :(
