Cop assaulted - Guess the sentence?!

How on earth is 60 years excessive? Have you SEEN her injuries? He was clearly trying to kill her. 60 years is fine, and if anything not enough. It should be life.

um, I think a lot of people believe its not right either. I think if 2 identical build man and woman had a full blown fight, and the man beat down the woman, then a judge would sentence him harsher than if the woman beat the man..

Do you have any reasons for this, out of genuine interest?

nope, but im having a guess, lol.. look, that 2nd video I posted of the BIG woman beating the man, if it was a BIG man beating a woman I dont think it would be funny, do you?

If the only thing that was changed was that the two people's genders were swapped then there'd be absolutely no difference to me :)

Edit: it's not really funny to me in the first place btw.

Morally people might feel differently, but there's no reason whatsoever for that to be reflected in law (although it's fair to say that it would be anyway).

and mephisto, I posted it thinking it was a man cop

I still don't understand why that's relevant; that person is a Police Officer, after all. They put themselves in harm's way all the time. Are you saying if the officer had been male, a lesser sentence would have been warranted?

lol, i knew you would say that.. just read all my replies, if you dont agree then thats fine :)

Elaboration:

The video is funny because usually the male is physically dominant over the woman, but in this case it's the other way round.

I agree that people wouldn't consider it funny if it was a woman being beaten up by a man, but that'd be because there'd be nothing abnormal or ironic about it, not because it's 'wrong'.

well it is wrong.. maybe not "in the law" sense but morally its not right, its just cowardly.. and if a man beats a woman ie like that, then he should be put away for along time.

I think perhaps this view point originates from the generalisation that men are physically superior to women; would I be right?

Of course, if this is the case, then your ethic should really forbid stronger people from attacking weaker ones, not men from attacking women!

its both, you shouldnt attack someone smaller than you, unless they really deserve it. and you shouldnt assault a woman unless she has done something to realllly annoy you or angered you

My fiancée of 5 years decided to sleep with one of my best mates, a mate of 25 years no less. Does that make it OK for me to go and knock the crap out of her?

so if he started kicking the **** out of the cop then went onto the kid, it would be fair then? or say if a man kicked the crap out of a baby, then its fair? as were all equal
One day, people may stop thinking of women as being children and start thinking of them as being adults.

Maybe.

Until then, there is damn all hope for genuine sexual equality.

I think a more severe sentence for assault on police is justified - it's an assault on the idea of law in addition to an assault on a person. The same goes for assault on a judge. Similarly, I think assault by someone in the police, or a judge, should carry a more severe sentence.
