I have around £750 to spend..

If you had this money would you buy a low end pc and a gaming console? (ps3 or xbox 360)

Or

A good gaming pc?

Ben.

All about what you intend to use the PC for. If you only want it for gaming then I'd say go with the console option, as once you get 'the bug' of PC gaming it WILL cost you a small fortune.

Im guessing what is ment is that when you get into PC gaming you usually start keeping your hardware u to date which starts to cost after a while. I know that is what I am like, when better hardware is releaed I always need to have it. Still needing to sell my x1950xtx and e6600 for 2900 and q6600.

What type of games are you wanting to play?

If you want something for you and your mates to mess about on then get a wii and a tv

If you want top end graphics and fps or mmorpg then get a pc

a wii... hmm what are these like?
Very good for a laugh with friends/family. Not so good if you play on your own, but the motion-sensing controllers do make it quite different. It would be a good idea to try one before deciding whether or not to buy one.

PC gaming is cheaper than console gaming if you buy a lot of games - wander into a shop and look at the prices of games. There is also a far larger market for older PC games at much lower prices. For example, I bought X2 for £5 a few days ago. Great game, by the way.

As for hardware upgrades...if you buy a PC on a par with a PS3 today, it will still be on a par with a PS3 in a year's time. To keep the comparison fair, you'd have to factor in the cost of buying a PS4 (or whatever it will be) and to what extent the lack of choice in upgrade options with a console will annoy you.

Whether you game on a PC or a console it'll cost you money. Main prob of a PC for gaming is that as technology evolves its expensive to upgrade it to keep it up to date. Whereas with a console you know you won't have to upgrade for several years untill a new one comes out!

So it all boils down to what you can afford. Personally, i much prefer PC gaming, but think consoles offer better value and less hassle. As for game prices, console games may be more expensive initially, but prices drop and they can be bought second-hand!

I'd go for a cheapish PC (dual core/2GB for Vista) but with a cheapo graphics card (to get Aero) and then get a 360 or PS3.

Depends what games you like. Mid range gaming pc is more than enough to play all games.

'the bug' of pc gaming?
Some people think you need to spend 2k every 6 months to play the latest games, rather than just turning the detail down slightly. It doesn't affect agme play. That way you can play new games on a system 3 years old. If it affects game play, then it had no game play and just looked pretty.

Depends what games you like, what the pc is going to be used for and how long it needs to last (to play the latest games smoothly). Do you need to get an entire pc? What resolution will you be gaming at?

If I were you I'd get a 360 premium with a few games (lots of good games coming out soon like mass effect and GTA4) and get a low end core2duo pc with a fairly decent graphics card. That should be within your budget. To get the most from your money you could also get 2nd hand pc components from members market soon....

Funny, I'm looking to purchase both parts at second hand prices but don't have access to members market...:(

My quad core with new mobo and 2gb of ddr800 ram only cost £331 - gaming pcs are cheap and will have better potential than a console.

Get a Wii and then get a nice PC - match made.

Very few games are better on console, mainly i am interested in how all the 3d fighters turn out online. At the moment it's still laggy but i'd love to play things like wwf extreme online.
Console games are too expensive and non mod/changeable.
You can easily get an xbox 360 and pc for £750.
