adsl stats

Ok im confused. Just got a dsl line, im 140 meters from the exchange. Synced at 8192 and its rock solid, line stats are

Down Up
SNR (dB): 8.0 25.0
Attn(dB): 5.5 1.0
Pwr(dBm): 7.8 12.7
Max(Kbps): 8928 1156
Rate (Kbps): 8128 448

What im confused about is, posts say that Attn = the lower the better, and SNR = the higher the better and anything below 10 is bad...

SO why is it, my line is rock solid and high speed and its reporting 8 for SNR.. which is bad ? right ?

Not really - 8dB SNR is fine imho as long as it's stable, i'd be concerned if it started to drop beneath 5dB, as that's when you might start to see it dropping.

How is it in the evenings? as that's when it may start to drop due to interference, street lighting etc!

Attenuation is a level of loss, so the lower the better.

actually ignore this, ive found elsewhere with ADSLmax the target SNR is always 6... if it goes lower thats when sync speed is reduced.

This was the case with normal adsl but not adslmax the target snr is usually 6 unless its has problems and the isp asks for it to be moved up

Looks like an internal wiring issue to me, try it in the Master test socket.

Er why? He's said it's solid, there is no issue. 8db is fine.

Low SNR shows a high amount of noise on the line. Given that it is a short line this suggests internal wiring to be the cause.

Of course if the line is stable then it isn't a problem.

not with adsl max it doesnt as the target snr is 6

With that attenuation you'd sync at well over 20mbps on LLU (eg Be* or UK Online). Nice line

The SNR will lower to 6 if neccessary but if it syncs at 8mb before it reaches 6 then it stays where it is. My SNR is 12 on a 1.5km line.

I can't answer for Pajeh, but I'm on ADSL Max (but going live with UK Online's 22 meg LLU tomorrow

)... I sync at the full 8128, my SNR is between 14 and 15 and my d/s attenuation is 18

thats my stats today... it varies, but its still rock solid.
