Critique for a new site please: /Ducks behind wall!!!

First impression is that it's far too busy - in fact so much so that it's actually slightly tiering on the eyes.

Also, does it have to say the name of the company 7 times on the front page?

The accreditation logos take up a huge amount of space when they could either be (smaller) at the bottom or listed on a separate page.

I'd also add some sort of color to the background or have the table auto size because there's a lot of white space at the moment.

Cheers m8.

I had the same feelings as you, too many refs to the name of the company and a bit too much "white".

I'm not really sure how I can change the background "white" colour though, I'll need to dive in to the code and have a wee look.

I like the colours, or at least I would like the colours again if it wasn't so busy. To be more precise, I like the colours that are in the background, that's the light blue, the slightly desaturated looking red and the dark baby blue in the bottom right.

Unfortunately the dark blue bar used for the links ruins this completely. Not entirely sure the orange is helping either.

I agree that the company's name shouldn't be all over the place, possibly keep the one on the left that is going up the page. The header art needs to be a bit higher res / mix in with the colour scheme of the site more.

Sorry if I've been harsh, I can't really offer any help colour wise because I usually sit for ages in some painting program drawing blobs of colours until I find something that matches and I like, but I've tried to be constructive at least :P

It also looks like you've used one of Amazon's buttons for the "Click here to Enter" button... I dont think Amazon would be too chuffed to be honest.

Not sure about that, I used a 3rd party prog/button creator to get those buttons up and running.

If they "look like" Amazons ones, then I apologise, but I certainly did not set out to copy them, nor did I "poach" from their website for the buttons.

There are three major design problems as I see it,
  1. Stretched/squashed images just makes the whole site look amazingly amaturish
  2. Clashing colours used for the different blocks making up the site
  3. The site is just too busy, too many pictures crammed into the headers
Sorry

Gonna give you a list of good and bad points - better get behind ya sofa again!

- The general layout of the page is good
- A lot of the images are distorted, makes the page [and the company] look amateur
- As already mentioned, the name is mentioned far too many times
- The header is too busy, make it simpler and relevant to the company
- Get rid of the "click here to enter". They should be able to use the site right from the start - "click here to enter" nearly always makes me click the back button
- Most of the page is taken up by pollock this and somerville that, there is hardly any room left for the text - the most important bit.
- The web address in the footer is completely redundant. Visitors know where they are. Fill it with something else. [or not have it at all].
- You don't really need the affiliates logos on every page

I don't mean to be overly harsh, but I can imagine people getting annoyed with your site - if they bother to stay.

The colours don't really clash, the blues and reds match quite well. The Yellow on the other hand is a bit distracting - mostly because it is so big and dominates every page.

By yellow I assume you mean the orange? That clashes with the blues and the red, the red footer clashes with the blue on the footer. The blue in the footer clashes with the darker blue used for the menu bar, it's not great with the lighter blue either.

Sorry.

Yes, I did mean the orange.

I still don't think the red clashes with the blue though. There's likely a better choice, but it is not awful.

EDIT: I think the biggest problem is just too many colours. Best designs usually only have 3 maybe 4 distinct colours.

Perhaps the OP should find a colourwheel on the 'net. Loads of free ones about.

Friendly Critique :)

  • The header is split into left and right... personally, I don't like that. Have it look more like one image with a purpose rather than 4 'random' images?
  • In the header, the font looks stretched out. I'd say, make it look normal - the same font as in the blue box on the left.
  • The orange vertical bar - i think this confuses things. when I first got to the page I wasn't sure what it was all about! I think those icons would be better off as tiny icons in the bottom pink box
  • The 4 images in the body look like they're squashed inwards - don't do that ;) Resize them carefully so that they dont look squashed
  • On the home page, don't have "click here to enter". They've already typed the web address in, that's all the "entering" they should need to do!
  • Contact Us page - the address is slightly different

Has potential, but imo:

- overall too much happening on the main page
- the company name on the left is not needed
- to make it look slightly more professional, try and get a hold of some higher quality images for links on the left
- Personally, wouldn't slpit a header like you have, also dont need the web address in the top right

Personally....

Remove both blue (one on left, and one in bottom right) and maroon(ish) "Pollock Somerville" sections.

Remove the yellow franchise badges and but this where the maroon(ish) bar was.

As said above, remove the "Click here to enter" badge

Something desperately needs doing with the header, but I just can't think what.

As has been said, there's too much going on.

Hey, don take this personally :)

The top split left - right doesn't work, same for stretched images.
Waay too many text options (font weight, colours, directions etc)
You don't need to put the www part in the design of the site.
4 columns is waay to much for such a narrow page.
Map is nice though :)
